Nobie Gooden began his Hawks career on the hardwood at Pepsi Arena but found his calling on the gridiron at QU Stadium.
In his two years as a star receiver for the Hawks, Gooden was instrumental in the Hawks championship in 1993.
Gooden made an immediate impact in his first season as the Hawks star wide receiver. He caught 41 passes for 540 yards in 1992 and scored eight touchdowns. Gooden averaged 14.1 yards per catch. Following the season, Gooden was named First Team IlliniBadger All-Conference.
Prior to the 1993 season, Gooden was named a pre-season All-American. Gooden’s 1993 still holds a place in the QU record books.
Gooden caught 59 passes for 840 yards and 11 touchdowns. During the season, Gooden set the single season school record for receptions in a game (17), reception yards in a game (206), receptions (59), reception yards (840), and touchdown receptions (11).
Gooden also set the career school records for receiving yards (1,420) and touchdown receptions (19)
Gooden still ranks in the top 10 in several single season and career records in QU football history.
Gooden was also named conference Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American following the 1993 season.
