2025–26 Hawks Men’s Basketball Season Preview: Returners, Transfers, and Fresh Faces

QUINCY, Ill. – With Head Coach Brad Hoyt entering his second season at the helm, the Quincy University men's basketball team is poised to take another step forward in 2025–26. The Hawks return a core group of contributors while welcoming a talented mix of transfers and freshmen, creating a roster built on balance, athleticism, and depth. After laying the foundation last season, Hoyt's squad is eager to climb the GLVC standings and make Pepsi Arena a tough place to play this winter.

Returning Core

Camren Kincaid – #0 – Senior – Guard – 6'3" – Springfield, Ill.
In his first year in a Hawk uniform, Kincaid proved himself as one of the team's most consistent playmakers. The 6-3 guard averaged 9.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and led the team with 3.4 assists per game while shooting nearly 49 percent from the field. Known for his incredible speed and finishing ability, Kincaid excelled at pushing the pace in transition and creating scoring chances at the rim. He scored a season-high 27 points against Truman State on a near-perfect shooting night and dished out team-leading assists in 11 different games. With his blend of quickness, efficiency, and vision, Kincaid returns as a steadying presence in the backcourt.

Ethyn Brown – #1 – Senior – Guard – 5'11" – Belleville, Ill.
Brown brings speed, toughness, and experience at the point guard position. Before an injury shortened his season, the 5-11 guard averaged 11.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists over 22 starts. Known for his calm composure as a true point guard, Brown has the ability to slow the game down and get the offense in rhythm when the Hawks need structure most. His double-double performance against UIndy (18 points, 10 assists) showcased his ability to control a game, and his 20-point outing against Southwest Baptist highlighted his scoring touch. A reliable free-throw shooter at 83.5 percent, Brown will look to finish his QU career as a leader on both ends of the floor.

Max Booher – #20 – Sophomore – Guard – 6'4" – Greenwood, Ind.
The reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year quickly became a household name for Hawk fans last season. Booher led the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game and ranked third in the GLVC in three-point shooting (.402) while knocking down 66 triples. An elite shooter who already gets the treatment of one around the league, Booher is often hounded by defenses determined to take away his perimeter looks. Despite the added attention, he continues to evolve into a true three-level scorer, developing his ability to attack the basket and create offense in the mid-range, making him a threat all over the court for opposing defenses. He scored 20 or more points four times, including a 23-point performance against Maryville, and reached double figures in 17 games. Booher's impact extended beyond the GLVC as he became just the second Quincy player ever to win the conference's top freshman honor, while also collecting the Chuck Brady Male Newcomer of the Year award from QU Athletics.

Tiernan Stynes – #42 – Sophomore – Guard – 6'6" – Point Cook, Australia
The 6-6 guard from Australia gained valuable experience in his first year, appearing in 19 games and moving into the starting lineup late in the season. Stynes saw a serious increase in playing time down the stretch, where he proved to be a true glue guy and hustle player for the Hawks. He showed the ability to score at all three levels and used his size to be an elite rebounder as an oversized guard, giving Quincy a unique weapon on the wing. Stynes averaged 3.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, and with his versatility and energy, he is expected to play a key role as a sophomore.

Transfer Class

Nelson Johnson Jr. – #4 – Junior – Forward – 6'9" – Cleveland Heights, Ohio
Johnson arrives at QU with size, athleticism, and defensive energy. The 6-9 forward, a high school state champion, first played at Central Georgia Tech, where he averaged 7.3 points and 5.3 rebounds on 65 percent shooting. After a season at Ranger College, he brings a proven ability to rebound and defend the paint. Johnson had a 21-point game as a freshman and once grabbed 18 rebounds in a single contest. His interior presence will add much-needed strength to the Hawks' frontcourt.

Jacob Collicott – #14 – Senior – Guard – 6'3" – Lafayette, Ind.
Collicott arrives at Quincy after a decorated four-year career at Concordia University Chicago, where he appeared in 77 games and totaled 983 points (12.7 per game), 538 rebounds (7.0 per game), 186 assists (2.4 per game), 198 steals (2.6 per game), and 71 blocks. As a senior, he delivered his best season yet, averaging 17.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while ranking fourth nationally in steals per game (3.48). His performance earned him NACC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-NACC, and recognition as Concordia's Male Athlete of the Year. Known for his relentless motor, defensive instincts, and toughness on the glass, Collicott adds a proven two-way presence to the Hawks' backcourt.

Jakeb Wallingford – #22 – Junior – Forward – 6'9" – Maywood, Mo.
The Quincy Notre Dame product stays home after a stellar career at John Wood Community College. The 6-9 forward averaged 13.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks last season while earning First Team All-Region 24 and All-MWAC honors. Wallingford recorded 16 double-digit rebounding games and was a reliable inside scorer, shooting over 52 percent from the field. A physical post presence, Wallingford is another great addition who brings tremendous length and size to the Hawks' lineup, giving Quincy more interior strength and rim protection alongside its versatile guards.

Lorenzo McMillion – #23 – Junior – Guard/Forward – 6'5" – Nashville, Tenn.
McMillion joins the Hawks after two standout seasons at Danville Area Community College, where he developed into one of the premier players in Region 24. The 6-5 Nashville native plays more like an undersized forward, using his strength, toughness, and relentless motor to score efficiently inside and dominate on the glass. As a sophomore, he averaged 13.4 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 56 percent from the field, leading the Jaguars in scoring, rebounding, and overall efficiency. Despite giving up size against taller frontcourt players, McMillion's ability to carve out space and finish through contact made him one of the most difficult matchups in JUCO basketball. His production earned him recognition as an NJCAA Third Team All-American, as well as MWAC Player of the Year, Region 24 Player of the Year, and spots on both the MWAC First Team All-Conference and the All-Region 24 Team. He capped off his JUCO career by being named Danville Area Community College Male Athlete of the Year.

Fresh Faces

Herb Martin – #3 – Guard – 5'11" – Edwardsville, Ill.
Martin enters Quincy as one of the most decorated guards in the St. Louis metro area, bringing both scoring ability and leadership from his time at Edwardsville High School. A proven playmaker, the 5-11 guard averaged 23.1 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals per game as a senior, guiding Edwardsville to a Southwestern Conference championship. Along the way, he was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State, while also earning MVP honors at the Don Mauer Tournament, Effingham Tournament, and Althoff Shootout. Martin also secured a spot on Edwardsville's all-time top-10 single-season scoring list, solidifying his place among the program's greats.

Trace Combs – #5 – Guard – 6'3" – Harrisburg, Mo.
Few incoming freshmen in recent memory boast the all-around résumé of Combs, who was a three-sport star at Harrisburg High School. On the hardwood, the 6-3 guard was a two-time All-State selection and earned KMZU Class 2 Player of the Year honors in both football and basketball. He led Harrisburg to back-to-back state quarterfinal appearances, showing his ability to elevate his game in big moments. As a quarterback, Combs guided the Bulldogs to a state quarterfinal run his senior year and was named Class 2 Offensive Player of the Year, while on the track he became a three-time All-State performer in events like the high jump and 4x400 meter relay. His rare combination of athleticism, toughness, and competitiveness makes him a natural fit for any coach's system.

Owen Duff – #30 – Guard – 5'11" – St. Louis, Mo.
Duff comes to QU from De Smet Jesuit, one of Missouri's premier basketball programs, where he was part of multiple winning teams, including the school's Class 5A State Championship squad. A proven shooter, Duff demonstrated his ability to stretch the floor with multiple double-figure games as a senior, highlighted by a 32-point outburst with eight three-pointers against Lee's Summit West. Across his career, he contributed to team records of 27-5, 21-4, and 21-9, showcasing his ability to succeed within a winning culture.

Preston Brewer – #33 – Forward – 6'8" – Canton, Mo.
Brewer brings an impressive multi-sport background to Quincy after excelling in basketball, baseball, and golf at Canton R-V High School. On the hardwood, the 6-8 forward was a dominant presence, finishing with a school-record 1,966 career points while earning numerous honors including Missouri Class 2 Player of the Year, KHQA Player of the Year, Muddy River Player of the Year, and District Player of the Year three times. As a senior, he averaged 25.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and 2.0 blocks while leading Canton to a 25-6 record and a Class 2A state runner-up finish. Beyond basketball, Brewer was a standout pitcher named the Herald-Whig Pitcher of the Year and a state-qualifying golfer.

Ethan Bolton – #44 – Guard – 6'7" – Melbourne, Australia
Bolton arrives at QU from Berwick College in Melbourne, where he was regarded as one of the top prep players in Australia. The 6-7 guard earned the prestigious honor of Victorian Basketball Player of the Year and played a leading role in helping his team capture a National Championship. Known for his scoring prowess, Bolton once dropped 43 points in a national tournament game, underscoring his ability to take over offensively. With his rare combination of size, perimeter skills, and international experience, Bolton adds another layer of versatility to Quincy's roster.

Looking Ahead

With a roster that combines returning stability, high-level transfers, and a freshman class brimming with potential, Quincy enters the 2025–26 season with momentum and optimism under second-year head coach Brad Hoyt. The Hawks have leaders in the backcourt, size in the frontcourt, and a variety of scoring options across the lineup. Fans can expect a fast-paced, competitive team built around balance, toughness, and depth.

Quincy will get its first tune-ups with a scrimmage at Western Illinois on October 22, followed by an exhibition at Northern Illinois on October 28. The Hawks return home for one final scrimmage against Millikin on November 3, before officially tipping off the regular season at Pepsi Arena. QU will host the Midwest Region Crossover, opening against Cedarville on November 14 at 7:00 PM and closing the event against Findlay on November 15 at 3:00 PM.
