Biography
2024-25 (Sophomore at Ranger College): As a sophomore at Ranger College, Nelson made an appearance in 26 games and made 17 starts, where he averaged 2.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. He was an efficient 28-45 from the field (0.622 percent) and totaled 12 blocks and six steals on the season. Johnson Jr. had a season-high 11 points in a win over Tribulation Prep (11/9/24) and reached double-digit rebounds twice on the season, including an 11-board game against Coastal Bend College (11/6/24).
2023-24 (Freshman at Central George Tech): As a freshman with the Titans, Nelson saw action in 30 games and made 14 starts, where he averaged 7.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. He led the team shooting 0.650 percent from the field (89-137) and made his collegiate debut against Tallahassee Community College (11/1/23), where he scored six points and hauled in seven rebounds to go along with two steals and a block. Johnson Jr. scored in double-figures 10 different times, including a season-high 21 points on 9-12 shooting in a win over Souther Crescent Tech (2/28/24). He also put together a game with 18 rebounds, which included seven offensive, against Albany Tech (2/3/24).
Personal:Â Nelson Johnson Jr., a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, continues his basketball journey with the Hawks after competing at Central Georgia Tech as a freshman and Ranger College as a sophomore. The son of Nelson Johnson Sr. and Angela Johnson, basketball runs in the family, as his father, Nelson Sr., played at Drake University.
At Lutheran East High School, Nelson was a standout for the Falcons, helping lead his team to a Division III State Championship. While at the state tournament, he made history by breaking the record for most steals in a state game with six. He was also a three-time honor roll student, showcasing his commitment both on and off the court.
Off the hardwood, Nelson enjoys video games and cooking. A big fan of LeBron James, he supports the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
