QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team put on a grand show to close out the season on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 1), dealing the Greyhounds of Indianapolis an 89-77 defeat on Senior Day thanks to a strong second half effort that saw the Hawks out shoot UIndy by nearly 25% in the closing 20 minutes.
El Sieger was a major player in the Hawks success, dropping in a season-high 27 points on 8-14 shooting with two threes and a 9-11 effort from the charity stripe to go along with six boards, an assist, and a steal.
The Greyhounds kicked off the contest on a 10-0 run over the first three and a half minutes before a three from
Max Booher got the Hawks on the board.
Tiernan Stynes knocked down another three off a feed from the Hawks' lone senior,
Todd Bieg in the next possession to make it 10-6.
UIndy took eight of the next 12 points to build up an 18-10 advantage at the 13:42 mark, riding out the cushion until a 10-2 Quincy run roughly four minutes later propelled the Hawks to a 29-25 lead with eight and a half to go.
QU held onto a slim advantage until Indianapolis ripped off a 10-0 run late in the half to press ahead 41-36, before going on to take a 47-45 lead into the break.
A 4-0 run to open the second half put the Greyhounds ahead 51-45, prompting a 9-0 swing from the Hawks to move back out in front 54-51.
UIndy took the next five points to press ahead 56-54 with 14:07 remaining, but it was all Quincy from there as the Hawks busted out a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to leap in front 67-56.
Indianapolis never crept closer than 7 points the rest of the way, as QU maintained a double digit lead for much of the remainder of the game on the way to a 89-77 Senior Day win, capped off by a
Camren Kincaid slam dunk to close out Hawks basketball at Pepsi Arena for the 24-25 campaign.
Kincaid was the Hawks next high-scorer, dropping in 15 to go with six of both boards and assists.
Joshua Bocher added 13 points with eight rebounds and a pair of blocks along with 13 points and seven rebounds for Stynes and 13 points with a 5-6 effort at the free throw line from Booher.
Quincy out shot the Greyhounds 53.3% to 42% from the field, 33.3% to 22.2% from beyond the arch, and won the rebounding battle 42-34.
