ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Quincy University men's wrestling team followed up its first home duel of the season, a win over Missouri Baptist, with a trip south to the St. Louis metro area for the Lindenwood Open this weekend.
Carter Silva led three Hawk placers with a fourth place finish in the Black Division, 149A weight class.
Black 133A
Perry Lake was the lone competitor in the division for Quincy, receiving a bye in his first round before falling to Josh Sanders of Bellarmine by Tech Fall (18-2) in second round championship action. Davis Joiner of Drury defeated Lake by Tech Fall (15-0) in his round two consolation match.
Black 141A
Sabian Russell represented QU in the 141A class, defeating Alexander Toro of Wayland Baptist by Fall (0:35) in the first round. Russell came away victorious in his second championship round match, pinning Shane Mobley-Koutsky of Missouri at the 41 second mark.
A sudden victory (25-22) for Russell over Jack Lage of Central Missouri in the quarterfinals found him pitted against Kody Ketchum of Maryville in the semifinal. Ketchum collected the win by Fall over Russell (0:54) to send the Hawks 141-pounder to the consolation bracket. Russell dropped his final two matches by Fall, including the fifth place match, to finish in sixth position.

Victor Salazar and
Owen Manley both fell in their opening round matches before receiving byes in first round consolation action. Salazar lost by Fall (2:09) to Hayden Osment of McKendree and Manley by fall to Ashton Hayhurst of Triton (1:30)
Mitchell Borynack of Oklahoma State defeated Salazar in the second round of consolation by Fall (0:40) and Manley lost by Fall (1:39) to Chase Hall of Bellarmine.
Black 149A
Carter Silva and
Hunter Vernon competed for QU in the class, with Silva claiming the highest finish of the day for the Hawks. Silva did so with a first round bye followed up with a Fall (4:47) win over Cody Martin of McKendree. Ben Zeman of Triton was the next victim in the quarters, giving Silva a 4:47 Fall victory. Cohen Wiste of Rochester CC handed Silva his first loss in the semifinal, a 7-2 decision.
Silva won his consolation match over Eric Streeter of Labette CC by 8-4 decision to advance to the third place match. Trey Dillow defeated Silva by decision (5-0) to give the Hawks their top finish in fourth.
Hunter Vernon fell in his first match before receiving a bye and then coming away with two victories in the consolation bracket. A 13-2 Major Decision loss to eventual champion, Collin Arch of Northern Illinois, followed by a 2-0 decision over Jesse Hinkle of Indian Hills CC and 10-8 decision over Jamarius Koshko of Labette CC found Vernon in the consolation semifinal. Collin Reif of Lindenwood ended the run with a 1:52 Fall of Vernon.
Black 149B
Humberto Pintor and
Lucas Clement received byes in round one before dropping their matches in round two. Pintor lost to Jake Romig of Ouachita Baptist by Fall (4:08) and Clement by Tech Fall (18-0) to Koye Grebel of Iowa.
Clement won three straight matches over Clay Queen Jr of Lyon College by Decision (10-4) as well as King-James Perry of Indian Hills CC and Garrett Good of Liberty by Major Decision 17-5 and 11-2, respectively, to advance to the consolation championship. Ty Lehman of Cumberland ended the run with an 8-2 Decision over Clement.
Pintor defeated Angel Nava of Morton College by Fall (2:45) before dropping his match to Ty Lehman by Major Decision (13-3) in consolation quarterfinals.
Black 157A
Elijah Mohring dropped his opening round match to Hugo Perez of Missouri Valley by Tech Fall (22-6). Mohring claimed the win by Major Decision over Isaac Richardson of Marian University (11-0) before dropping his match to Thomas Stuhlman of Indian Hills CC by Fall (1:23) in round two consolation action.
Black 157B
Gabriel Orosco received a bye in the first round before dropping his second round champ match to Rich Hart of Missouri by Decision (9-3). Orosco defeated Roman Coldwell of Labette CC by Fall (3:29) in second round consolation action before falling to Conner McCann of Liberty by Major Decision (14-6) in the quarterfinals.
Jacomb Magana fell to Aaron Myers of Missouri at the 1:20 mark of his first match before dropping his consolation match to Roman Coldwell of Labette CC by Fall (6:46).
Black 165A
Peyton Schnurpel received a bye before losing to Dax Gentes of Fall (2:54) in the second round of the championship bracket. Schnurpel was defeated by Khaled Alkelane of Morton College by Decision (17-10) to end his day in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Black 165B
Raymond Fernadez and
Jack Miller both received byes in their first round before dropping their second round matches. Fernandez lost by 11-4 Decision to Peyton Asbury of Indian Hills CC and Miller dropped his match to Gavin Goddard of Central Missouri by Tech Fall (18-3)
Fernandez received another bye through to the consolation quarterfinal before losing to Sam Duling of Labette CC by Fall (1:10). Miller exited in the second round of the consolation bracket, losing to Maks Sherstnev by Fall (3:24).
Black 184
Anthony King,
Dalton Schell and
Judah Yates were the three representatives for QU in the single 184 class. All three Hawks dropped their first round matches. King by Fall (2:20) to Gabriel Hayes of Liberty, Schell by 8-5 Decision to Oscar Alfaro of Cumberland and Yates by Fall (1:55) to Jersey Robb of Oklahoma State.
Yates found the most success in the consolation bracket, coming away with wins over Avry Rutherford of Drury by Tech Fall (19-4) and Parker Henry of Ouachita Baptist, also by Tech Fall (15-0), before dropping out in the consolation quarterfinal against Ridge Schutte of McKendree by Fall (1:37)
King lost his consolation match to Elijah Edwards of Morton College by way of 3-1 Decision and Schell was defeated by Steven Marquez of Indian Hills CC by Major Decision (14-3) in his match.
Black 197
Maxim Ryner received a bye in the opening round before taking down Devontae Givens of Triton by Fall (5:00) to advance to the quarterfinals. Justin Hoffer of Bellarmine handed Ryner a 13-1 Major Decision defeat to send the Hawk wrestler to the consolation bracket. Still in the running for third, Ryner dropped his final match to Matthew Marcum of Labette CC by Fall (3:57) to end his run.
Black 285A
Kayden Garrett received a first round bye before defeating Ian Nelson of William Woods by Fall (2:40) to advance to the quarterfinals. Austin Silva of Cumberland defeated Garrett by Fall (2:25) to send him to the consolation bracket.
Garrett took down Treyshawn White of Indian Hills CC by 3-1 Decision before falling to Jack Stoffel of Drury by Major Decision (15-4) to reach the fifth place match. In a rematch with Silva of Cumberland, Garrett fell again, this time at the 3:00 minute mark to finish in sixth.
Gold 157 (Open)
Gavin Morawitz and
Easton Norris competed for the Hawks in the 157 class, with Morawitz receiving a bye and Norris dropping his first round match to Alex Rees of Northern Illinois by Tech Fall (15-0). Morawitz joined Norris in the consolation bracket after a second round defeat at the hands of Gabe Johnson of Central Oklahoma, losing by Tech Fall (18-1).
Norris advanced to the second round of the consolation bracket thanks to a bye, but fell to Emmanuel Oliver of Morton College by Major Decision (14-3). Morawitz received a bye in the second round before facing Oliver, fresh off a win over Norris, in the third round. Morawitz won that match by Decision (7-0) to advance to the consolation semifinals. Aiden Smith of Northern Illinois ended the run with a 1:23 Fall victory over Morawitz.
Gold 174 (Open)
Aaron Taylor received a bye in the first round before dropping his match to Matt Ortiz of McKendree in the second round. Taylor received another bye in the second round of consolation before losing to Austin Stewart of Northern Illinois by Decision (13-9)
Next up for the Hawks is the Drury/CMU Dual in Springfield, MO on Friday (Dec. 1).
