FAYETTE, Iowa – The Quincy University softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon, taking a wild 12–10 extra-inning victory in game one before securing a 7–2 win in game two. The Hawks combined for 19 runs on 25 hits across the two games, using timely hitting and strong pitching to complete the sweep.
Game 1: Quincy 12, Upper Iowa 8 (8 innings)
Quincy jumped out to a fast start in game one. After an error allowed a runner to reach,
Kaidence Dumas launched her team-leading sixth home run of the season to give the Hawks an early lead. Moments later,
Samantha Farrell followed with her first career home run, putting Quincy in front 3–0 in the opening inning.
The Hawks maintained control through the early innings before adding on in the fifth.
Kenzie Moss connected on her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot that pushed the lead to 5–1. Quincy extended the advantage again in the sixth with a two-RBI single from
Casey Fronheiser to make it 7–2.
With Upper Iowa down to their final outs, the Peacocks responded with a dramatic rally in the seventh inning, highlighted by a grand slam on a 3-2 count with two outs that tied the game at 7–7 and forced extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Quincy answered in a big way. The Hawks capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to score five runs in the frame. RBI singles from Farrell and
Hailee Irby, along with a two-RBI single from
Catherine Nielsen, highlighted the rally and gave Quincy a 12–7 lead.
Upper Iowa made one final push with three runs in the bottom half, but Quincy held on for the 12–10 victory. The Hawks totaled 16 hits, with
Lindsey Fischer recording her first career three-hit game, while Farrell added three hits and two RBIs. Dumas and Moss each contributed multi-hit performances in the win.

Alexus Freeman earned the victory after tossing 6.2 innings, while
Hailey Platt and
Haley Martin combined to finish the game in relief.
Game 2: Quincy 7, Upper Iowa 2
Quincy carried that momentum into game two, striking first in the second inning when Nielsen delivered an RBI double to give the Hawks a 1–0 lead. Upper Iowa answered in the bottom half to take a 2–1 lead, but Quincy responded in the fourth inning with a three-run rally.
Makala Koozer tied the game with an RBI single before Fronheiser delivered a two-run double to give the Hawks a 4–2 advantage.
The Hawks added insurance in the sixth inning. After loading the bases, Fronheiser drew an RBI walk before Moss added an RBI single. A sacrifice fly later in the inning extended the lead to 7–2, putting the game out of reach.
In the circle, Martin delivered a dominant performance, tossing her fifth complete game of the season. The right-hander allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out six, controlling the Upper Iowa offense from start to finish.
Quincy finished with eight hits in game two, with Koozer, Fronheiser, Moss, and Nielsen each recording two-hit performances.
The Hawks will be back in action on Tuesday, March 24th, with a doubleheader against Central Missouri beginning at 12:00 PM in Warrensburg, Missouri.
