Hawks Drop Doubleheader to Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Quincy University softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to Central Missouri on Tuesday afternoon, falling 10–3 in game one and 3–0 in game two.

Game 1: Central Missouri 10, Quincy 3

Both teams threatened early in the opening inning but were unable to capitalize. Casey Fronheiser recorded a single for Quincy, while Alexus Freeman worked out of a jam in the bottom half to keep the game scoreless.

Central Missouri broke through in the second inning with a two-run home run to take a 2–0 lead, holding Quincy scoreless through the frame.

The Hawks responded in the third with their best offensive stretch of the day. Makala Koozer sparked the rally with a leadoff single before Fronheiser followed with her second hit of the game. After a walk to load the bases, Kaidence Dumas delivered a three-run single, bringing home Koozer, Fronheiser, and Kenzie Moss to give Quincy a 3–2 lead.

Freeman answered with a scoreless bottom half, and the Hawks carried that momentum into the fourth, where strong defense helped preserve the one-run advantage despite a Central Missouri threat.

However, the Jennies took control late. Central Missouri plated three runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead and followed with a five-run sixth inning to break the game open. Quincy was unable to respond offensively over the final three innings as the Jennies secured the 10–3 victory.

Game 2: Central Missouri 3, Quincy 0

Central Missouri set the tone early in game two, taking a 2–0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double. The Jennies added another run in the second inning on an RBI single to extend the lead to 3–0.

Quincy struggled to generate offense early, as the Jennies' pitching staff held the Hawks hitless through the first three innings.

In the circle, Hailey Martin settled in after the early runs and delivered a strong performance. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing just six hits and one walk while striking out four, and held Central Missouri to just two hits and no runs over the final four innings to keep Quincy within striking distance.

Both teams were held scoreless through the middle innings as the pitchers took control. Quincy broke up the no-hitter in the seventh inning with its first hit of the game, but the Hawks were unable to push a run across as Central Missouri secured the 3–0 win.
