Hawks Swept by Truman State as Offense Struggles in Doubleheader

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Quincy University softball team was swept by Truman State on Saturday afternoon, falling 3–0 in game one and 4–1 in game two. The Hawks were held to just one run across the doubleheader despite recording nine total hits.

Game 1: Truman State 3, Quincy 0

The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning when a leadoff walk and stolen base eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly, giving Truman a 1–0 lead. Quincy starter Alexus Freeman worked out of additional trouble in the inning, stranding two runners to keep the deficit at one.

The Hawks threatened in the second inning after Hailee Irby singled and Kinsey Biggerstaff was hit by a pitch, but Truman escaped the inning without damage.

Truman added two more runs in the third inning when Katie Pilcher connected on a two-run home run to left-center, her fourth of the season, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 3–0.

Quincy had its best opportunity in the sixth inning. Lindsey Fischer and Casey Fronheiser both singled before Kaidence Dumas drew a walk to load the bases with two outs, but Truman made a pitching change and worked out of the jam to preserve the shutout.

The Hawks were limited to just three hits in game one, coming from Fronheiser, Irby, and Fischer. Freeman tossed six innings in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.

Game 2: Truman State 4, Quincy 1

Quincy threatened early once again in game two. Fronheiser reached on a single and an error in the first inning, while Farrell and Biggerstaff each singled in the second to put runners in scoring position. However, the Hawks could not capitalize.

Truman broke through in the second inning with an RBI single before adding another run in the third on an RBI double. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 4–0 in the fourth inning with back-to-back RBI doubles.

The Hawks got on the board in the sixth inning when Makala Koozer doubled to begin the frame, and Moss followed with a single. Hannah Uhles then drove in Koozer with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 4–1.

Quincy brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning after Biggerstaff was hit by a pitch and Fischer singled, but Truman was able to record the final out to complete the sweep.

Koozer, Fronheiser, Moss, Farrell, Biggerstaff, and Fischer each recorded a hit in game two, while Uhles drove in the Hawks' lone run. Haley Martin went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader against William Jewell beginning at 12:00 PM.
