ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Quincy University softball team battled in two tightly contested games Saturday, rallying late in both contests before falling 5-4 to Concordia-St. Paul and dropping an 11-7 extra-inning decision to Wayne State.
Game 1 – Concordia-St. Paul 5, Quincy 4
After two scoreless innings to open the contest, Concordia-St. Paul broke through in the bottom of the third inning. The Golden Bears plated two runs on three hits, highlighted by Lily Burke's RBI single that scored Ava Blake for the game's first run. Riley Rosenthal followed with a bunt single to bring home Gabby Martinez and extend the lead to 2-0.
Quincy was held scoreless through the first five innings. In the fourth,
Kinsey Biggerstaff drew a walk and advanced to third, but the Hawks were unable to capitalize and remained down two runs.
Concordia added to its lead in the fifth when Danni Sharum delivered an RBI single to score Burke and make it 3-0.
The Hawks responded in the top of the sixth, erupting for four runs on four hits to take their first lead of the game.
Kenzie Moss started the rally with an RBI single to score

Kaidence Dumas followed with a run-scoring single that plated Biggerstaff. Moss later scored on a passed ball to tie the game, and
Haleigh Winter lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Lindsey Fischer, giving Quincy a 4-3 advantage.
The Golden Bears answered in the bottom of the seventh, scoring twice in their final at-bat to reclaim the lead and secure the 5-4 victory.
Koozer led Quincy at the plate with two hits, while Biggerstaff drew two walks. Rosenthal and Burke paced Concordia-St. Paul with three hits each.
Haley Martin took the loss after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing five runs on 11 hits, while Emmy Bowne earned the complete-game win for the Golden Bears.
Game 2 – Wayne State 11, Quincy 7 (10 innings)
Wayne State struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Abby Barnes singled through the left side to score Molly Hool for an unearned run. The Warriors added another run in the fourth following a Quincy throwing error to take a 2-0 lead.
Quincy answered in the fifth.
Casey Fronheiser drew a walk,
Andee Brown reached on a fielder's choice, and
Lindsey Fischer grounded out to shortstop, allowing Fronheiser to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.
The teams traded runs in the sixth, pushing the score to 4-2 in favor of Wayne State. Quincy surged ahead in the seventh when
Kaidence Dumas launched a three-run home run to score
Kinsey Biggerstaff and
Makala Koozer, giving the Hawks a 5-4 lead.
Wayne State responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run to tie the contest at 5-5.
In the eighth inning, the Hawks manufactured a run on a sacrifice fly by Fronheiser to score
Karlie Ingle. Quincy added another run on an RBI single by Biggerstaff that brought home Catherine Nielson. The Hawks collected two hits in the ninth but stranded three runners, sending the game into extra innings tied at 7-7.
Wayne State held Quincy scoreless in the top of the 10th before sealing the game in the bottom half with a walk-off grand slam to center field to secure the 11-7 victory.
Dumas led the Quincy offense with three hits and three RBI, highlighted by her three-run homer. Koozer and Fronheiser each drew two walks, while Molly Hool paced Wayne State with four hits.
Hailey Platt started in the circle for Quincy and threw 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and two walks while striking out three.
Alexus Freeman took the loss in relief. Kyra Shadduck started for the Warriors, and Sydney Long earned the win in relief.
Quincy returns to action February 27 at the Midwest Collegiate Classic in Shawnee, Kansas, at the Mid-America Sports Complex. The Hawks will face Fort Hays State at 10:00 AM before taking on Winona State at 12:15 PM.
