ATCHISON, Kan. — The Quincy University men's wrestling program continued its strong start to the season on Saturday, earning 11 podium finishes at the Service Salute hosted by Benedictine College in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium. The Hawks showed depth across multiple weight classes, producing high-level efforts from both returners and emerging wrestlers.
At 133 pounds,
Ashton Gamboa led the way with a 3rd place finish, going 4–1 on the day. His tournament included a 21–3 tech fall, a 14–3 major decision, and a pair of hard-earned decisions (4–3 and 6–3) to secure his place on the podium.
Kaden Rios-Loud matched that performance at 125 pounds, also taking 3rd, highlighted by a 16–1 tech fall, a 14–9 decision, and a 15–4 major decision to close his day at 3–1. At 157 pounds,
Lucas Clement recorded a strong effort to finish 3rd place as well, winning three matches by decision, including an 8–5 sudden victory win in the third-place match.
Quincy also collected multiple fourth-place finishes. At 141,
Dimitri Bao-Washington placed 4th, going 1–2 on the day with a 14–7 decision.
Isaiah Nichols earned 4th at 157, securing both a 14–4 major decision and a 16–1 tech fall.
James Soliz added a 4th-place showing at 197, finishing his day with a 1:40 fall.
Other podium finishes included
Bryce Edwards at 141 pounds, who placed 6th after earning a fall in 2:12 and a 2–0 decision, and
Cody Ruiz, who recorded two falls (0:17 and 2:11) on his way to a 6th-place finish at 285.
Gavin Morawitz took 5th at 165 with three wins, including a 1:50 pin, while
Zyan Westbrook added another 6th-place result at 133, winning by tech fall (18–1) and fall (4:36).
The Hawks showed power in the upper weights and gained valuable mat awareness early in the season, with additional wins posted throughout the lineup by
Judah Yates,
Raymond Fernandez,
Matt Hobbs, and others who contributed to the program's depth and competitive consistency.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, November 15, when they travel to Decorah, Iowa, to compete in the Luther College Open.
