QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Lincoln (Mo.) at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex, falling 5-2 in game one before being shut out 8-0 in game two.
Game 1: Lincoln (Mo.) 5, Quincy 2
Game one opened as a pitchers duel, with both teams held scoreless through the first inning before Lincoln struck first in the second with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. The Blue Tigers added to their advantage in the middle innings, using another solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0.
Quincy threatened in the third when Lindsey Fischer ripped a triple, but the Hawks were unable to bring her home. The Hawks broke through in the sixth, taking advantage of walks and a Lincoln throwing error to plate two runs as Makala Koozer and Fischer scored to cut the deficit to 3-2. Lincoln responded in the seventh with another solo home run to add insurance and held off Quincy late to secure the 5-2 win.
Game 2: Lincoln (Mo.) 8, Quincy 0
In game two, Lincoln once again took control early, scoring two runs in the second inning before adding another in the third to build a 3-0 lead. Quincy struggled to find offense, breaking up a no-hitter in the fifth when Kinsey Biggerstaff singled for the Hawks' first hit.
The Blue Tigers pulled away in the sixth, using a three-run inning fueled by a pair of doubles to extend the lead. They added two more runs in the seventh to cap the scoring at 8-0 as Quincy was limited to just two hits in the contest.
The Hawks were unable to generate consistent offensive momentum across the doubleheader, managing just two runs in game one and being shut out in game two.
Quincy will wrap up its homestand on Sunday, April 26 against Missouri-St. Louis with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM followed by game two at 2:00 PM.
