ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Hawks dropped a dual meet to the eighth-ranked Division III program in Washington University in St. Louis by a final score of 160–99 on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Quincy turned in several standout performances highlighted by event wins, school records, and multiple top-10 times in program history.
Quincy opened the meet with a strong showing in the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of
Juri Bauer,
Haniel Kudwoli,
Martiniano Montero, and
Santiago Leiva finished second in a time of 1:32.70, missing first place by just 0.40 seconds. The time ranks as the ninth-fastest in school history.
In the 1000 freestyle,
Denislav Koykov delivered one of the top swims of the day, placing second with a school-record time of 9:34.42. Teammate
Wyatt Walsh followed closely in third at 9:39.71, which now stands as the fourth-best time in program history.
Bauer narrowly missed an event win in the 100 backstroke, finishing second at 52.00, just 0.07 seconds off the top spot.
Marcelo Rojas added a podium finish in the 100 breaststroke, taking third with a time of 57.73, missing first by 0.36 seconds.
The Hawks found success in the sprint freestyle events. Leiva captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 21.24, while
Kyle Scritchfield placed second at 21.31. Koykov followed with another victory in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall first in 46.70.
Walsh continued his strong day in the 200 backstroke, winning the event in 1:51.69, which ranks as the third-best time in school history.
Brendan Worster secured second place at 1:53.47, good for the eighth-fastest time in program history.
Kudwoli added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.91, while
Victor Abram placed third in the 500 freestyle at 4:52.54.
In the 400 IM, Walsh earned another victory, posting a time of 3:57.79, the eighth-best mark in school history. Rojas finished second at 4:07.54, followed by
Chase Slagter in third at 4:23.95.
The meet concluded with a strong showing in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Koykov, Scritchfield, Montero, and Leiva won the event with a time of 1:25.13, ranking 10th in school history. A second Quincy relay of
Jaedon Lynch,
Ian Caballero, Bauer, and Kudwoli placed second at 1:26.76, while Abram,
Andrej Golubovic,
Brendan Worster, and Rojas finished close behind in 1:29.95.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, January 31, when they face William Jewell in their final dual meet of the season before the GLVC Championships. First event is scheduled for 1:00 PM from Kresge Pool in Liberty, Missouri.
