ROLLA, Mo. — Quincy University men's swimming suffered its first setback of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to 23rd-ranked Missouri S&T in an 11-event dual at the S&T Pool. The Hawks dropped to 4–1 overall after the Miners claimed eight of the 11 events, while Quincy collected 14 of the 33 medals on the day.
Quincy opened the meet with a strong showing in the 200 medley relay, as the A-relay of
Juri Bauer, Haniel Kuwoli,
Martiniano Montero, and
Santiago Leiva finished second in 1:33.75, while the B-relay (
Brendan Worster,
Andrej Golubovic,
Ian Caballero, and
Kyle Scritchfield) followed in third at 1:36.31.
The Hawks earned their first win of the meet in the 200 freestyle, where
Wyatt Walsh touched first in 1:41.62. Walsh added another victory later in the 500 freestyle, winning the event in 4:43.13.
Denislav Koykov placed third in the 500 with a time of 4:50.89, missing second by just 0.02 seconds.
In the 50 freestyle,
Santiago Leiva posted a second-place finish in 21.17, while
Wojciech Chalat opened individual competition with a third-place swim in the 1,000 freestyle at 10:19.91.
The Hawks were well represented in the 200 IM, as Koykov finished second in a season-best 1:54.34, and
Marcelo Rojas took third at 1:57.73. Rojas later added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle, touching in 48.15, while
Brendan Worster claimed second in the 100 backstroke at 53.32.
Haniel Kuwoli continued Quincy's strong breaststroke performances with a runner-up finish in the 100 breast at 58.01.
Quincy closed the meet on a high note with a dominant performance in the 200 freestyle relay. The A-relay of Koykov, Montero, Scritchfield, and Leiva captured first place in 1:24.67, the sixth-fastest time in school history, while the B-relay of Walsh, Caballero, and
Jaedon Lynch placed third in 1:27.24.
The Hawks return to competition at the Grinnell Invitational on January 16 at the Russell K. Osgood Pool and Natatorium.
