DECORAH, Iowa - The Quincy University men's wrestling team competed at the Luther Open on Saturday inside the Regents Center. The Hawks produced several promising performances throughout both the Elite and Silver divisions, highlighted by three top-four finishes and numerous multi-win outings.
In the Elite division, Quincy saw standout performances from
Callan Ivy,
Sabian Russell, and
Te'Andre Allen, each earning a place on the podium. Ivy led the way with a strong third-place finish at 184 lbs, going 4–1 on the day with wins by tech fall, major decision, and a pair of sudden victory decisions. At 149 lbs, Russell battled his way to a fourth-place finish with a fall in just 55 seconds, an 8–0 major decision, and a 4–2 decision. Allen also captured fourth place at 133 lbs, posting three decision victories (4–0, 8–2, 2–0).
The Hawks also saw several other Elite wrestlers notch wins.
Hunter Vernon put together one of the best overall days on the team, finishing 4–2 at 165 lbs with two falls (3:32 and 2:48), a 14–4 major decision, and a 6–4 decision.
Brian Farley added a 2–2 showing at 125 lbs, including a tech fall and a 10–4 decision, while
Mac Chambers and Lucan Clement each recorded 2–2 days with a pair of tech falls for Chambers and a tech fall and decision for Clement.
Caleb Groff, Cody Ruis,
Gabriel Orosco,
James Soliz, and
Jackson Jones all picked up wins in their Elite brackets as well.
In the Silver division, the Hawks continued to find success.
Bryce Edwards finished 3–2 at 141 lbs, highlighted by a 4–1 sudden victory decision and a 16–1 tech fall.
Isaiah Nichols delivered an impressive performance at 157 lbs with a 3–2 day that included a 14–5 major decision and two high-scoring tech falls. At 133 lbs,
Ashton Gamboa added two wins with a major decision and a 4–3 decision. The biggest performance in the Silver division came from
Zyan Westbrook, who earned sixth place at 133 lbs after recording four falls on the backside of his bracket.
Other Hawks in the Silver division, including
Tate Miller, who picked up a fall at 165 lbs, also contributed fight and valuable mat time across their respective brackets as Quincy continued to build depth throughout its lineup.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, November 22nd, traveling to Warrensburg, Missouri, for the Kaufman Brand Bayly Open, hosted by Central Missouri at the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.
