Seven-Run Fourth Inning, Late Rally Sink Hawks in Doubleheader Sweep by Lewis

HANNIBAL, Mo. – Quincy dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Lewis, falling 11-1 in five innings in game one before coming up just short in a 5-4 loss in game two. The Hawks were outscored 16-5 on the day despite recording 13 hits across the two contests.

Game 1: Lewis 11, Quincy 1 (5 innings)

Lewis struck first in game one with an RBI double in the opening inning, but Quincy answered in the second. Haleigh Winter led off the inning with a double before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt from Kaidence Dumas. Kinsey Biggerstaff then singled to center to drive in Winter and tie the game at 1-1.

The Flyers regained the lead in the third inning, scoring once on a wild pitch and again on an RBI single to make it 3-1. Lewis then broke the game open in the fourth inning with seven runs. A pair of Quincy errors helped fuel the rally as the Flyers used a mix of RBI singles, a two-run double, a sacrifice fly, and another two-run single to build a 10-1 lead. Lewis added one final run in the fifth inning before Quincy went down in order in the bottom half.

Winter recorded the first multi-hit game of her career in game one, going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Biggerstaff drove in the Hawks' only run, while Makala Koozer added a double. In the circle, Alexus Freeman took the loss after allowing eight runs, five earned, over 3.1 innings. Dumas worked the final 1.2 innings in relief.

Game 2: Lewis 5, Quincy 4

Game two remained scoreless through the first two innings before Lewis broke through in the third. A single, RBI double, and an error allowed the Flyers to take a 2-0 lead. Quincy nearly answered in the bottom half when Avery Mulvey singled to center field for the first hit of her collegiate career, but the Hawks could not capitalize.

Lewis added two more runs in the sixth inning with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0. Quincy responded immediately in the bottom half. Casey Fronheiser singled before Kenzie Moss doubled into the gap. After a wild pitch moved both runners up, Samantha Farrell delivered a two-run double to center field, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

The Flyers added an insurance run in the seventh inning after loading the bases and scoring on a hit by pitch. Quincy made one last push in the bottom half. Dumas doubled to begin the inning and Mulvey followed with a walk. After an error loaded the bases, Moss lined a two-run single, cutting the deficit to 5-4. The tying and go-ahead runs moved into scoring position, but Lewis escaped with the final out to complete the sweep.

Moss recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the season in game two, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Farrell added her fifth multi-hit game of the year and second game with two RBIs, while Mulvey collected her first career hit. Dumas and Fischer also doubled as Quincy finished with nine hits in the second game. Haley Martin tossed a complete game in the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits while working around seven walks and four hit batters.

The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday April 8th as they travel to Rosemont, Illinois for a doubleheader against Roosevelt with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:00 PM.
