Hawks Split Senior Day Doubleheader with Walk-Off Victory Over UMSL

QUINCY, Ill. – On Senior Day at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex, Quincy battled Missouri–St. Louis in a Sunday doubleheader, falling just short in game one 5-4 before bouncing back with a walk-off 8-7 victory in game two. The Hawks honored seniors Kenzie Moss and Lindsey Fischer prior to first pitch.

Game 1: Missouri-St. Louis 5, Quincy 4

Game one saw the Tritons strike early, using a lineout and sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Quincy responded quickly in the bottom half as Hailee Irby delivered an RBI double to score Samantha Farrell and cut the deficit in half.

The Hawks continued to chip away, tying the game at 2-2 before Irby delivered again in the fifth inning, launching a solo home run to center field. The homer not only gave Quincy a 3-2 lead, but also marked Irby's 100th career RBI.

Missouri–St. Louis answered in the sixth to tie the game before taking the lead for good in the seventh with a two-run inning. Quincy could not complete the comeback, falling 5-4 in the opener.

Game 2: Quincy 8, Missouri-St. Louis 7

Game two started fast for the Hawks as Samantha Farrell reached base and Kenzie Moss followed with a two-run home run to right field. The blast pushed Moss past 100 career RBIs while giving Quincy an early 3-0 advantage.

The Tritons battled back to tie the game and eventually took a 7-4 lead following a grand slam in the fifth inning. Quincy responded late, beginning in the sixth when Haleigh Winter delivered an RBI single to bring the Hawks within striking distance.

In the seventh, the Hawks mounted a dramatic comeback. Lindsey Fischer singled and advanced into scoring position before Casey Fronheiser delivered an RBI double. Kaidence Dumas followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 7-7, setting the stage for Kinsey Biggerstaff, who blooped a walk-off single down the right field line to complete the comeback and secure the 8-7 victory.

Quincy will look to build off the momentum as they hit the road on Saturday, May 2, traveling to Maryville University. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM, followed by game two at 2:00 PM.
