ROLLA, Mo. – Quincy dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader against Missouri S&T, falling 9-2 in game one before suffering a 19-2 loss in five innings in game two.
Game 1: Missouri S&T 9, Quincy 2
Game one started well for the Hawks as
Makala Koozer came around to score on a Miners throwing error off the bat of
Kenzie Moss, giving Quincy an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Missouri S&T answered quickly in the bottom half, scoring four runs to take control.
The Miners added a solo home run in the second inning to make it 5-1 before both teams traded runs in the fourth.
Hannah Uhles brought home
Casey Fronheiser on a fielder's choice to cut into the deficit at 5-2, but Missouri S&T responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a home run and a pair of doubles, to extend the lead to 8-2.
Missouri S&T added one more run in the fifth on an RBI double and held Quincy scoreless over the final innings to secure the 9-2 win.
Game 2: Missouri S&T 19, Quincy 2 (5 Innings)
In game two, the Miners jumped out early once again, scoring four runs in the first inning and five more in the second to build a 9-0 lead. Quincy got on the board in the third when
Haleigh Winter launched a two-run home run, but Missouri S&T immediately answered with eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to 17-2.
The Miners added two more runs in the fourth on another home run to cap the scoring at 19-2. Quincy was unable to generate another rally as the game ended after five innings.
Winter's home run accounted for Quincy's only runs in game two. Uhles drove in a run in game one, while Fronheiser, Koozer, Moss, and Winter all collected hits across the doubleheader.
Haley Martin took the loss in game two, allowing 19 runs, 17 earned, on 15 hits over four innings.
Kaidence Dumas took the loss in game one after allowing nine runs on 12 hits.
Quincy returns to action on Saturday, April 25, at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex for a doubleheader against Lincoln (Mo.), with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
