Hawks Shut Out Twice as Parkside Completes Doubleheader Sweep

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University softball was held scoreless across both games of Thursday's doubleheader, falling 4–0 and 7–0 to Parkside at QU Stadium.

Game 1: Parkside 4, Quincy 0

Parkside set the tone early in the opener, using a leadoff home run in the second inning to grab a 1–0 lead. From there, both pitchers settled in as Alexus Freeman matched zeros with Holly Lowenberg through the middle innings. Quincy's only offensive spark came in the third when Samantha Farrell lined a single to center for one of just two hits in the game.

The Rangers broke things open in the fifth inning, stringing together timely hits to plate three runs. A two-RBI double brought home Isabel Aranda and Taylor Utrata, before Utrata later added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4–0. That would be more than enough support for Lowenberg, who completed the two-hit shutout to secure the win. Freeman went the distance in the circle for Quincy, allowing four runs on eight hits.

Game 2: Parkside 7, Quincy 0

Game two followed a similar script, though Parkside capitalized on an early Quincy miscue to get on the board. After a leadoff walk, an error allowed the Rangers to plate an unearned run in the first inning. Quincy threatened in the bottom half, as Makala Koozer was hit by a pitch and stole second, but the Hawks were unable to push a run across.

The game remained within reach until the fifth inning, when Parkside broke through with three runs behind RBI hits and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4–0. The Rangers continued to add on in the sixth before delivering the final blow in the seventh on a two-run home run.

Quincy was unable to generate offense in game two, finishing without a hit and managing just three baserunners. Parkside pitcher Casey Jo Vermett dominated in the circle, tossing a complete-game no-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

Hailey Martin took the loss for the Hawks, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings, while Kaidence Dumas provided relief and struck out three across the final 1.2 innings.

The Hawks struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the doubleheader, totaling just two hits across both games while being held scoreless in each contest.
