ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Quincy University softball team wrapped up Friday action at the Rosemont Dome, dropping a pair of contests against Ferris State and Hillsdale.
Game 1: Ferris State 13, Quincy 3 (5 innings)
Ferris State struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning before Quincy answered in the second. The Hawks loaded the bases with walks, and
Kinsey Biggerstaff drew a bases-loaded walk to even the score at 1-1.
The Bulldogs regained control in the third, using two hits and a Quincy error to score three runs. Ferris State then broke the game open in the fourth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to build a 13-1 lead.
Quincy continued to fight in the fifth.
Kaidence Dumas doubled and later scored, while
Kenzie Moss delivered a two-run double to left to bring the Hawks within 13-3 before the game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
Dumas led Quincy with two hits, while Moss drove in two runs. The Hawks drew four walks and were hit by two pitches in the contest. In the circle,
Hailey Platt took the loss, while Alexis Freeman and
Hannah Uhles provided relief appearances.
Game 2: Hillsdale 10, Quincy 5
Hillsdale built an early cushion, scoring two runs in the first and four more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. A Quincy error in the second inning helped extend the Chargers' advantage.
The Hawks broke through in the fifth when Biggerstaff ripped an RBI double to right-center to score
Casey Fronheiser, trimming the deficit to 6-1.
Hillsdale answered with four runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-1, but Quincy mounted its strongest rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Avery Mulvey lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run,
Haleigh Winter followed with an RBI double, and two additional runs crossed on a Hillsdale throwing error to cut the deficit to 10-5.
Quincy collected 10 hits in game two, with
Makala Koozer,
Kaidence Dumas, and
Andee Brown each recording two hits. Biggerstaff and Winter drove in runs with doubles during the comeback effort. Hannah Martin took the loss in the circle after working 5.1 innings, while Emma Stieferma provided relief.
The Hawks will look to get back in the win column as they have two more games tomorrow, with game one being at 11:00 AM against Concordia-St. Paul.
