Rolla, Mo. - The Quincy University track and field teams opened up their outdoor season in Rolla, Missouri, at the Miner Invitational. Four Hawks broke records andÂ
Women's Results
The Hawks' distance crew did well in their first outing on a full-sized track.
Ava Certa and
Carlie Davis competed in the 800-meter run, Certa finishing in 18th with a 2:43.07 time and Davis finishing just behind her at 2:54.08.
Katie Park smashed the 5-year old 1,500-meter run record by seven seconds at 5:02.26.
Briana Obermaier rounded out the distance group with the 5K, completing the run in 21:40.32, a personal best for the junior.Â
Sofia Berg was the lone Hawk to compete in sprints, finishing the 100-meter dash in 14.65 seconds.Â
Men's ResultsÂ
The Hawks kicked things off with 11-second 100-meter dashes from
Sam Koenig and
Jayden Ruiz. Koenig then ran a 23.04-second 200-meter dash before anchoring a 4x100 relay that finished eighth with a 43.87-second time.Â
Vinny Olson and
Jude Mintle each ran the 1,500-meter run. Olson came in at 4:38.40 while Mintle finished in 4:42.81.Â
Landon Sprous and
Dominick Ricci competed in the 110-meter hurdles. Sprous picked up a fourth place finish with a 15.28-second time and Ricci rounded out the Hawks with a 16.14. Ricci then dominated the Hawks' first long-distance hurdle of the year with a 58.69-second time, good for a new Hawks record. Sprous followed shortly after with a 1:02.74 time. Ricci rounded out his afternoon with a 1.90-meter leap in the high jump, good for fifth place overall.Â
Jack Thompson crushed the long jump record at Quincy with a 6.84-meter leap to secure third place.
Jerron Baker and
Jarvis Thompson also competed in the event, posting 6.22-meter and 6.17-meter leaps, respectively.
Jack Thompson finished first in the triple jump and crushed the Hawks' record in the event with a whopping 14.48-meter jump. Baker came in close behind with a 14.12-meter leap, followed by
Jarvis Thompson at 13.16, and
Charlie Kallal at 12.51 meters.Â
The Hawks had a hot start to the outdoor season and look to continue improving through the spring.Â
