INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Quincy University track and field teams turned in a strong showing at the GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, highlighted by multiple podium finishes, personal records, school records, and improved team finishes from a season ago as the Hawks continued to take strides as a program.
The Quincy men placed 10th out of 12 teams with 16 total points, improving their team finish from last year's championship meet.
Leading the way was
Jack Thompson, who delivered a podium performance with a second-place finish in the triple jump, soaring 15.00 meters to earn eight team points. Teammate
Jerron Baker followed with a fourth-place finish in the same event, recording a personal-best mark of 14.66 meters to add five more points for the Hawks.
On the track,
Aneas Smith posted a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37, while
Evan Sweeney added a scoring performance in the weight throw, finishing eighth with a toss of 16.79 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Dominick Ricci,
Kayden Johnston,
Evan Hines, and
Sean Sossou capped off the weekend with a seventh-place finish in 3:24.57, securing additional points and closing the indoor season on a strong note.
On the women's side, the Hawks finished 11th out of 13 teams with 12 points, also improving upon last year's team finish and continuing the upward trajectory of the program.
Katie Park highlighted the meet with a third-place podium finish in the mile, breaking her own school record with a time of 5:06.66. She later added an eighth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing in 2:21.43 to score additional points.
The distance medley relay team of Park,
Lauren Hegele,
Emily Faletti, and
Alexis Fonseca etched their names into the record book as well, finishing ninth with a new school-record time of 12:56.19.
Freshman
Suraya Newman impressed in the jumps, placing sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.21 meters and ninth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.30 meters.
Madison Roberts also turned in a strong performance, setting a personal record of 7.74 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries before finishing seventh in the finals with a time of 7.81.
With the indoor season complete, the Hawks now shift their attention to the outdoor campaign. Both teams will return to competition on March 28 at the Billiken Invitational as Quincy looks to carry its momentum into the spring.
