CANTON, Mo. – The Quincy University men's and women's track and field teams put together another strong weekend at the Wildcat Open hosted by Culver-Stockton College. The men finished second out of 16 teams with 92 points, while the women placed fourth out of 17 teams with 59 points. The meet was highlighted by four school records, with three of those marks also setting new facility records.
Jack Thompson once again led the way for the men's team, turning in another dominant performance in the jumps. Thompson won the long jump with a school record and facility record mark of 7.49 meters. He followed that up with another first-place finish in the triple jump at 15.01 meters.
Jarvis Thompson added an eighth-place finish in the long jump at 6.39 meters and took fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.78 meters.
Charlie Kallal also scored in the triple jump, finishing seventh at 13.19 meters.
On the track,
Sean Sossou continued his strong outdoor season by winning the 200 meters in 21.73 seconds.
Evan Hines also had a standout day, running a personal-best 11.03 in the 100 meters and helping the 4x100 relay team of
Jarvis Fuller, Hines,
Aneas Smith, and Sossou finish third in 42.09, a season best.
Smith had one of the top all-around performances of the day, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.67 while also placing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 55.58.
Kayden Johnston took eighth in the 110 hurdles at 15.53 and placed seventh in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best 55.87.
Luke Schuette also added a PR of 17.33 in the 110 hurdles.
The distance group posted several strong efforts as well.
Owen Weinfurtner placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:09.44.
Joe Warning broke the two-minute mark in the 800 meters with a personal-best 1:59.55, while
Oliver Moore ran 2:04.06 and
John Damm finished in 2:05.59, both personal records.
Vinny Olson ran a personal-best 4:17.80 in the 1500 meters, while
Jude Mintle crossed in 4:34.72 and
Logan Meyer finished in 4:50.34, both personal bests.
Austin Haskins added a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:26.81.
In the throws,
Evan Sweeney continued to score valuable points for the Hawks. He finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.90 meters and placed fifth in the discus at 42.79 meters.
Tate Kunzeman added a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 49.90 meters, while
Charlie Kallal recorded a PR of 38.03 meters.
On the women's side,
Briana Obermaier highlighted the day with a first-place finish in the 10,000 meters. Her time of 42:18.61 set both a school record and a facility record.
Katie Park also broke both the school and facility record in the 5000 meters, winning the event in 17:44.31.
Mia Robnett also posted a personal-best time of 23:10.90 in the event.
Suraya Newman had another strong meet in the jumps, winning the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 11.47 meters while also placing third in the long jump at 5.23 meters.
Lauren Hegele finished eighth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 4.92 meters.
Alexis Fonseca placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 12:12.51, while
Emily Faletti ran a PR of 2:26.22 in the 800 meters.
Sofia Coglianese posted a personal-best 5:33.17 in the 1500 meters, and Lillian Fields followed with a PR of 6:00.09.
Madison Roberts also scored for the Hawks in the 100 meters, placing sixth in 12.45 seconds.
Quincy will be back in action on Wednesday, April 22, at the Rittgers Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hosted by Coe College.
