EMPORIA, Kan. - Quincy University sophomore
Jack Thompson is set to compete on the national stage once again as he represents the Hawks at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Emporia, Kansas, at Francis G. Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University.
Thompson enters the national championship after also qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship earlier this year in March, where he earned Second Team All-American honors in the triple jump with a mark of 14.75 meters, finishing 12th overall.
This time around, the sophomore will compete in the men's long jump, where 22 athletes qualified for the national championship field. Thompson enters the meet seeded 20th with a qualifying mark of 7.49 meters.
During the outdoor season, Thompson competed in the long jump six times, posting a consistent season that included three first-place finishes, one runner-up finish, a fifth-place finish, and a sixth-place finish at the GLVC Outdoor Championship. His top performance of the year came at the Culver-Stockton Wildcat Open, where he recorded a jump of 7.49 meters to claim first place while setting a new personal best and school record for Quincy.
Thompson will become Quincy's first representative at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship since Herman Chongwain competed on the national stage in 2022.
The men's long jump competition is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st beginning at 2:30 PM in Emporia, Kansas.
