Thompson Qualifies for NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Triple Jump

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Quincy University sophomore Jack Thompson has qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championship and will represent the Hawks in the men's triple jump in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The Golden, Illinois native and Camp Point Central High School product has put together an outstanding indoor season in the jumping events, consistently posting top finishes while steadily improving his marks throughout the year.

Thompson opened the season with a first-place finish at the Frigid Bee, posting a mark of 14.75 meters. He followed that performance with another victory at the Coach Richard Alsup Invite with a jump of 14.64 meters, before placing second at the Principia Relays with a mark of 14.30 meters.

The highlight of Thompson's season came at the Hilltop Classic, where he delivered a historic performance with a jump of 15.17 meters, setting both a Quincy University school record and a facility record at Illinois College. He later followed that effort with another strong showing at the GLVC Indoor Championship, finishing second with a jump of 15.00 meters.

Thompson enters the national championship ranked tied for 13th in the field with his season-best mark of 15.17 meters, one of 18 athletes set to compete in the men's triple jump. His qualification also marks an important milestone for the program, as Thompson becomes the first Quincy men's track and field athlete to reach the national stage since 2022.

While the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 13, Thompson will compete on Sunday, when the men's triple jump is scheduled for 11:00 AM in Virginia Beach.
