JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Quincy University men's and women's track & field teams closed out the regular season indoor schedule with an impressive performance Friday at the Hilltop Classic inside King Fieldhouse, hosted by Illinois College. No team scores were recorded, but the Hawks delivered a standout meet highlighted by 21 personal records, an NCAA provisional mark, and multiple event victories.
Leading the way was
Jack Thompson, who delivered a historic performance in the triple jump. Thompson recorded a leap of 15.17 meters, hitting the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard while setting a new school record and King Fieldhouse facility record, breaking a mark that had stood since 2004.
The Hawks dominated the men's hurdles and sprints, beginning with
Dominick Ricci, who won the 60-meter hurdles in a personal-best 8.51 while also placing second in the high jump at 1.88 meters. Teammate
Aneas Smith finished runner-up in the hurdles at 8.62, with
Kayden Johnston placing sixth in 8.86.
On the track,
Sean Sossou sprinted to victory in the 200 meters with a time of 22.82, while
Evan Hines added a fourth-place finish in 23.22.
Jarvis Fuller turned in a personal-best 7.22 in the 60 meters to place fifth.
In the horizontal jumps,
Jarvis Thompson posted a personal-best 13.61 meters to finish second in the triple jump, and
Logan Dennis added an eighth-place mark of 12.37 meters.
The Quincy women produced strong sprint and field performances.
Madison Roberts captured the 60-meter title with a personal-best 7.88, leading the Hawks' efforts on the track.
In the field events,
Suraya Newman recorded a pair of podium finishes, placing second in the triple jump (11.20 meters) and third in the high jump (1.35 meters).
Lauren Hegele added a third-place finish in the triple jump at 10.49 meters.
With momentum from one of their strongest meets of the indoor season, the Hawks now turn their attention to the GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championships, set for February 28–March 1 in Indianapolis.
