Hawks Jumps Star at SAU Tune Up

Davenport, Iowa - The Quincy University track and field teams headed up to St. Ambrose University for their third and final time this season for the SAU Tune Up event on Friday (Feb. 15). 

Women's Results
Sofia Berg took care of sprints for the ladies, posting an 8.90-second 60-meter dash and a 1:12.25 time in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Katie Park topped the Hawks in the 800-meter run, running a 2:27.81, her fastest in the event. Freshman Ava Certa joined her in the event, finishing in 2:43.85. 

The distance trio of Bri Obermaier, Carlie Davis, and Sofia Coglianese ran the mile at SAU, Obermaier leading the pack at 6:19.11. Davis and Coglianese both hit season best times with Davis at 6:25.61 and Coglianese at 6:34.04. 

Men's Results
Sam Koenig led the Hawks with the final qualifying spot in the 60-meter dash, a 7.26-second sprint. Koenig was consistent in the finals and ran the same time to place fifth overall. Jayden Ruiz placed 11th in a fast heap of runners in the 200-meter dash, completing the run in 24.55 seconds. 

Thomas Hess led the pack with a fourth place finish in the 800, running a season-best 2:05.81. In the 1,000-meter run, Vinny Olson ran a 2:50.54, setting a new standard for Hawks in the event. Jude Mintle and Owen Weinfurtner ran the mile for the Hawks and finished back-to-back, Mintle crossing the line at 10:12.30 and Weinfurtner at 10:14.36. 

Landon Sprous put up an 8.74 time in the 60-meter hurdles during prelims and shaved his time down to 8.61 seconds in the final heat. Dominick Ricci also secured a qualifying time at 9.22 seconds took sixth in the event with a 9.14-second time. Sprous and Ricci rounded out the Hawks' lineup in the 4x400 relay, helping Jarvis Thompson and Koenig to a third place finish at 3:40.40 time. 

Again, the Hawks' jumpers ran the show in Davenport. Jack Thompson, Jerron Baker, and Jarvis Thompson went first, second, and third in the long jump, Jack Thompson leading the way with a 6.94-meter leap on his fourth try, just centimeters away from breaking the Hawks' record. Baker jumped a 6.39 in the event and Jarvis Thompson rounded out the trio with a 6.21-meter leap. 

Jack Thompson, Baker, Charlie Kallal, and Jarvic Thompson dominated the group in the triple jump, taking all four top spots. Jack Thompson led the way with a 13.65, followed by Baker at 13.29. Kallal and Jarvis Thompson jumped 12.55 and 12.20 respectively. 

Evan Carroll was the loan Hawk in the throw events, tossing the weight 12.09 meters on his last toss. 

The Hawks have one final meet before they test their skill against conference opponents. The Hawks will head back to Illinois College for the IC Hilltop Classic on February 21st.
