DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quincy University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2025 indoor season on Friday at the Frigid Bee Invite, hosted by St. Ambrose University inside the Roell Indoor Track in Davenport, Iowa. Quincy's men finished third out of 12 competing teams behind a historic performance from
Jack Thompson, while the women turned in a seventh-place finish among nine teams.
The men were led by
Jack Thompson, who delivered one of the strongest performances in program history by breaking two school records. He captured first place in the long jump with a new school-record leap of 7.10 meters and followed with another first-place finish in the triple jump after soaring 14.75 meters, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, shattering the previous school record in the event. Thompson's two victories accounted for 20 points toward the Hawk total and anchored a strong team showing in the field events.
Quincy also scored well in the jumps as a group, highlighted by a fourth-place effort from
Jarvis Thompson in the triple jump at 13.31 meters and a fifth-place finish from
Charlie Kallal with a jump of 13.10 meters.
Logan Dennis added valuable points by placing sixth in the event at 12.41 meters. Kallal also contributed a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.39 meters.
The Hawks were active on the track as well, with freshmen
Sean Sossou and
Evan Hines each making strong collegiate debuts in the 200-meter dash. Sossou crossed in fifth place with a time of 23.12 seconds, while Hines followed close behind in sixth at 23.15. In the 60-meter hurdles,
Landon Sprous placed fourth overall with a time of 8.78, and Dominic Ricci finished fifth in 9.07. Ricci also scored in the high jump, earning seventh place after clearing 1.85 meters.
In the throwing events,
Evan Sweeney represented Quincy with a fifth-place finish in the shot put at 14.21 meters and followed with a sixth-place effort in the weight throw at 15.17 meters.
On the women's side,
Ateezah Churchwell led the sprint group by placing seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.09. Sofia Capasso followed with a seventh-place showing in the 200 meters, clocking 28.50 seconds.
Lauren Hegele had an outstanding day in the horizontal jumps, taking sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.70 meters and placing fourth in the triple jump at 10.54 meters to give Quincy key points in the field.
The Hawks will return to competition on January 17 when they head to Maryville, Missouri, for the Coach Alsup Invite Open.
