INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Quincy University men's lacrosse team dropped a 22-3 decision to the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon at Key Stadium. Indianapolis used a fast start and controlled possession throughout the afternoon to hand the Hawks another conference loss.
Indianapolis jumped out quickly in the opening quarter, scoring four goals in less than a minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Hawks answered at the 8:57 mark when
Sean Usher scored off an assist from
Jameson Essen to cut the deficit to 4-1. Quincy stayed within striking distance thanks to several early saves from
Austin Vetter, but Indianapolis added another goal late in the quarter to carry a 5-1 lead into the second.
The Greyhounds took full control in the second quarter, scoring eight goals to extend the lead to 13-2 by halftime. Quincy struggled to sustain offense and committed eight turnovers in the period. The Hawks' lone goal of the quarter came with 53 seconds remaining when
Cooper Karedes found the back of the net off an assist from
Eli Cowan.
Indianapolis continued to build on its lead in the third quarter, scoring twice while holding Quincy scoreless. The Hawks generated a few opportunities from Cowan,
Sean Usher, and
Seve Cordero, but were unable to break through against the Greyhound defense.
The Greyhounds added five straight goals to begin the fourth quarter and push the lead to 20-2 before Quincy answered.
Mason Luoma scored at the 7:08 mark off another assist from Cowan for the Hawks' final goal of the day. Indianapolis added two more late goals to secure the 22-3 victory.
Indianapolis dominated possession throughout the afternoon, outshooting Quincy 64-18 and holding a 61-24 advantage in ground balls. The Greyhounds also won 25 of 28 faceoffs, while Quincy managed just three faceoff wins. The Hawks committed 25 turnovers and were limited to 12 shots on goal.
Cowan led Quincy with two assists, while
Sean Usher, Karedes, and Luoma each scored once.
Jonah Pappas paced the Hawks defensively with six ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Ronan Cripe added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Despite facing 41 shots on goal, Vetter turned in another strong performance in net with 19 saves.
The Hawks will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 18, when they travel to Liberty, Missouri, to take on William Jewell College. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
