Men’s Lacrosse Ends Season with Road Loss to William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Quincy University men's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2026 season with a 17-7 road loss to William Jewell on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks finish the season with a 2-11 overall record and a 0-5 mark in GLVC play.

William Jewell came out fast, scoring the first seven goals of the game in the opening quarter. The Cardinals found the back of the net twice in the opening seven minutes before adding five more goals over the final 5:23 of the period to take a 7-0 lead. Quincy got on the board with 40 seconds left in the first quarter when Jameson Essen scored off an assist from Cooper Karedes to make it 7-1 heading into the second.

The Cardinals continued to control the game in the second quarter, adding three more goals to build a 10-1 lead. Quincy answered late in the half when Haakon Steen scored off an assist from Sean Usher with 1:22 remaining to cut the deficit to 10-2 at halftime.

William Jewell added four goals in the third quarter, but the Hawks found a response midway through the frame when Eli Cowan scored off another assist from Karedes to make it 13-3. The Cardinals answered less than a minute later to take a 14-3 lead into the final quarter.

Quincy showed some fight in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals in the final 15 minutes. Seve Cordero opened the period with an unassisted goal, while Cowan later scored a man-up goal off an assist from Steen. After William Jewell stretched the lead back to 17-5, Cordero scored again off an assist from Essen before Cowan added his third goal of the day with 1:25 remaining.

William Jewell outshot Quincy 43-32 and held a 39-27 advantage in ground balls. The Cardinals also won 17 faceoffs compared to 10 for the Hawks and converted 5-of-8 extra-man opportunities. Quincy finished 1-for-3 on man-up chances and cleared the ball successfully on 14 of 18 attempts.

Cowan led the Hawks with three goals, while Cordero added two goals. Steen finished with a goal and an assist, while Essen recorded a goal and an assist as well. Karedes led Quincy with two assists. Defensively, Jonah Pappas, Ian Kersten, and Ricci Ankton each collected three ground balls, while Lincoln Pahl recorded two caused turnovers. Austin Vetter made 12 saves in goal in the season finale.

The Hawks finish the year with a 2-11 overall record and will look to regroup heading into the 2027 season.
