DES MOINES, Iowa – The Hawks wrapped up the regular season with a strong showing at the Grand View Open on Sunday, their final tournament before postseason competition. Competing across both the Gold and Silver divisions, Quincy produced four podium finishes, highlighted by individual titles from
Lillian Baynes and
Alexandra Tchekounova.
In the Gold Division,
Trinity Pendergrass led the way with a sixth-place finish at 103 pounds. Pendergrass went 2-2 on the day, earning two technical falls, including a quick 59-second win.
Julia Chambers (138) also recorded two victories via technical fall and fall, while
Sereena Baca (117) picked up a pin at the 5:18 mark.
Abby Rhodes and
Siobhan Rogers each competed at 145 pounds, gaining valuable experience against a deep field.
The Hawks were dominant in the Silver Division, where Tchekounova captured the championship at 110 pounds with a perfect 4-0 record, winning all four matches by fall. Baynes followed suit at 160 pounds, claiming the title with a 5-0 performance that featured five pins. Florida Niyokusenga added another podium finish, placing sixth at 138 pounds after recording three falls.
Madisynn Crawford (160) posted a 3-2 record with two falls and a technical fall, while
Valeria Rodriguez (145) also went 3-2, earning one fall and two technical fall victories.
Ariella Miloncus (138) finished 2-2 with two quick pins, and
Abigail Mendoza (103) recorded a technical fall in her lone victory.
Quincy now turns its attention to the postseason, as the Hawks return to action on Friday, February 20, at the Region V Tournament in Indianola, Iowa, hosted at Cowles Fieldhouse.
