FAYETTE, Iowa – The Hawks came away with a massive road upset on Thursday night, knocking off 22nd-ranked Upper Iowa 85–66 behind a career performance from freshman
Ethan Bolton. The win marked Quincy's first victory over a ranked opponent since the 2019–20 season, handed the Peacocks their first conference loss of the year, and snapped a seven-game losing streak against Upper Iowa.
Bolton poured in 38 points to go along with 15 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks, leading Quincy to its most impressive win in nearly five years on the Peacocks' home floor.
Bolton jumpstarted the Hawks' offense early, scoring 14 of Quincy's first 20 points as the Hawks opened up a 20–13 lead midway through the first half while shooting 8-for-12 from the field.
Upper Iowa was able to hang around offensively, cutting the deficit to two with just over three minutes remaining after Quincy had pushed the lead to nine. The Hawks closed the half strong, scoring the final five points to take a 40–33 advantage into the break.
Quincy shot better than 50 percent from the field in the opening half, led by Bolton's 20 first-half points.
The second half belonged to Quincy as the Hawks came out of the locker room on a 20–9 run, stretching the lead to 60–42 while shooting 7-for-10 from the field.
Tiernan Stynes fueled the surge, scoring nine points during the run.
Quincy never looked back. The lead ballooned to as many as 25 points when a Bolton slam gave him 34 and 35 on the night, making it 75–50 with just over seven minutes remaining.
Upper Iowa chipped away late, but the outcome was never in doubt as Quincy closed out the 85–66 upset victory.
Quincy shot a scorching 57.4 percent from the field, while Upper Iowa turned in one of its poorest shooting performances of the season at 32.9 percent. The Hawks dominated the glass with a 51–33 rebounding advantage and controlled the interior, outscoring the Peacocks 48–24 in the paint. Despite committing 21 turnovers that led to 18 Upper Iowa points, Quincy's efficiency and physical play proved too much to overcome.
Ethyn Brown also found himself back on the floor for the first time since November 15th, when he suffered an injury against Findlay.
The Hawks will look to carry the momentum into next week when they travel to Kirksville, Missouri, to take on Truman State on Thursday, January 22, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 PM.
