KIRKSVILLE, Mo. The Hawks endured a slow start as Truman State opened the contest on a 17–8 run. While Quincy shot an efficient 4-for-4 during the early stretch, defensive struggles—particularly from beyond the arc—allowed the Bulldogs to build momentum with two three-pointers at the 14-minute mark.
Quincy began to settle in midway through the first half, mounting a comeback to trim the deficit to 21–19 with 10 minutes remaining. Stynes jump-started the run by going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line and knocking down a three-pointer. Despite continuing to chip away, the Hawks entered halftime trailing 47–38.
The Hawks came out aggressive in the second half, quickly cutting the margin to 58–51 with 14 minutes remaining. Quincy attacked the basket consistently, earning trips to the charity stripe as Cameren Kincaid,
Ethan Bolton, and Stynes all went a perfect 100 percent from the free-throw line during the surge.
Building on that momentum, Quincy battled back to within one at 62–61 with nine minutes left.
Ethyn Brown showcased his perimeter shooting to keep the Hawks within striking distance, and Lorenzo McMillon followed with a three-pointer to make it a two-point game at 68–66 with six minutes remaining.
In the closing minutes,
Ethan Bolton drilled a clutch three-pointer to give the Hawks their first lead of the night, 73–72, with two minutes remaining. Truman State answered with back-to-back layups to retake the lead, 77–76, with 24 seconds left. Stynes responded with a pull-up jumper to put Quincy back on top, 78–77, before Truman's Jahki Parrinello converted a free throw to tie the game at 78 and force a Quincy timeout.
Coming out of the timeout, the Hawks committed a turnover, giving the Bulldogs a chance to win it at the buzzer. Truman State got a clean look at the rim, but the layup rolled off, sending the game to overtime in Kirksville.
Stynes continued his strong performance in the extra period, opening overtime with a driving layup to give Quincy an 80–78 lead as part of his 23-point night. Truman State answered at the free-throw line, and the two teams traded baskets to knot the game at 88–88. With two seconds remaining, Julian Brown knocked down a decisive three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 91–88 advantage.
Quincy had one final opportunity, as Cameren Kincaid got a look from beyond the arc following a set play, but the shot fell short and Truman State secured the 91–88 victory.
Quincy shot 43 percent (29-of-67) from the field, while Truman State finished at 44 percent. The Hawks held an edge on the defensive glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 32–29, and scored 44 points in the paint. Turnovers proved costly for Quincy, which committed 10 on the night.
Stynes led the Hawks offensively with 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including a 10-of-11 effort at the free-throw line, marking his third 20-plus point performance of the season. He added a well-rounded stat line with nine rebounds and five assists.
Ethan Bolton followed with 20 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting night, continuing his strong play after earning GLVC Player of the Week honors. Cameren Kincaid chipped in 18 points, while
Ethyn Brown scored 16 points in his first start since returning from injury.
Jakeb Wallingford narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Truman State was paced by a balanced offensive effort, placing seven players in double figures. Emmanuel Byrd anchored the Bulldogs inside with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Quincy will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, January 24, as the Hawks take on William Jewell at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM, following the women's game.
