Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Quincy University track and field teams traveled up to Mount Mercy University for the Mustang Distance Carnival this weekend (April 11-12).
Katie Park had a weekend with two broken records and two top-five finishes while
Jack Thompson continued his strides in jumps with a first place finish in the triple jump.
Women's Results
Park started the Hawks off with the 1,500-meter run on Friday, posting her first sub-five time at 4:56.47. Park snapped her own 1,500-meter run record for the second time this season. On Saturday, she then set a new record in the 800-meter run, finishing at 2:20.85 and notching a third place finish in the open section of the event.
Sofia Berg competed in the 100-meter dash at the Carnival, finishing in 13.82 seconds. Berg also competed in the long jump for the ladies, finishing tenth with a 4.27-meter leap.
Sofia Coglianese competed in the open section of the 1,500-meter run, completing the race in 6:02.19. Rounding out the distance portion of the meet was
Briana Obermaier with a 21:06.05 in the 5,000-meter run, a new personal best.
Men's Results
Jayden Ruiz handled the sprint events for Quincy, running an 11.61-second 100-meter dash and a 23.83-second 200-meter dash on the weekend.
Landon Sprous placed ninth in the 110 hurdles at 15.49-seconds, hairs in front of
Dominick Ricci who had a personal best 15.83-second run in the event. The Hawks flipped spots int he 400-meter hurdles with Ricci finishing fourth with a 56.62 time, and Sprous running his fastest time at 58.29 seconds. Ricci also placed fifth in the high jump with a personal best height at 1.90 meters.
Owen Weinfurtner ran a personal best 11:07.12 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in his second time running the event for the Hawks. Rounding out the distance events for the men were
Vinny Olson and
Jude Mintle in the 1,500-meter run. Both hit personal bests in the event as Olson finished at 4:32.60 and Mintle finished at 4:39.85.
Evan Carroll competed in throws for Quincy, tossing the discus 32.3 meters and sending the hammer throw 32.23 meters. Carroll also sent the shot put 11.73 meters on Saturday.
Quincy's seventh-ranked jump squad competed well at the carnival.
Jerron Baker led the pack in the long jump with a 6.56-meter jump, followed by
Jarvis Thompson at 6.55 meters. Both men were dangerously close to the Hawks' record at 5.59 meters.
Charlie Kallal rounded out the long jump with 5.93 meters.
The triple jump saw a first place finish from
Jack Thompson at 14.01 meters. Baker and
Jarvis Thompson went 13.24 and 13.23 respectively in the event, followed by Kallal at 12.65 meters.
The men competed in both the 4x100 meter dash and the 4x400 meter dash. The combination of Ruiz, Thompson, Ricci, and
Sam Koenig finished the 4x100 in 43.87 seconds while Thompson, Sprous, Koenig and Ricci finished the 4x400 in 3:26.13.
The Hawks bring their talents just over the river this Friday for the Wildcat Open at Culver Stockton College.
