Four School Records Fall for Hawks at Mustang Distance Carnival & Open

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Quincy University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open hosted by Mount Mercy University on April 10 and 11. No team scores were kept at the meet, but the Hawks continued their strong outdoor season by breaking four school records across the two-day event.

Madison Roberts opened the weekend with a record-setting performance in the women's 100-meter finals, placing third with a time of 12.41 to break the school record.

Katie Park continued her outstanding season in the distance events. Park won the women's 1500-meter run on Friday with a school record time of 4:41.86. She later added a fifth-place finish in the elite 800 meters with a time of 2:18.41. Emily Faletti also competed in the 1500 meters, placing seventh in 5:16.09.

Alexis Fonseca added another school record for the Hawks in the women's 5000 meters, finishing eighth in 18:58.33.

On the men's side, Dominick Ricci highlighted the meet with a school-record performance in the 400-meter hurdles, winning the event in 53.85. Ricci also placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.81 meters and ran on Quincy's 4x400 relay team that posted a season-best time of 3:19.16. Ricci was joined on the relay by Kayden Johnston, Evan Hines, and Sean Sossou.

Sean Sossou turned in a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 49.39, while Evan Hines won the men's 200-meter open in 22.56. Aneas Smith placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.22.

In the distance events, Joe Warning finished second in the men's 1500 meters with a time of 4:16.23, while Vinny Olson followed in third at 4:21.77.

The Hawks also had another strong showing in the jumps. Jack Thompson won both the long jump and triple jump, posting a mark of 6.82 meters in the long jump and 14.83 meters in the triple jump. Jerron Baker added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a season-best leap of 6.72 meters and finished second in the triple jump at 14.39 meters. Charlie Kallal placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 13.21 meters.

On the women's side of the jumps, Suraya Newman won the triple jump with a mark of 11.11 meters and placed seventh in the long jump at 4.85 meters. Lauren Hegele also earned a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.19 meters.

In the throwing events, Evan Sweeney placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 42.38 meters and sixth in the hammer throw at 53.23 meters. Tate Kunzeman added a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 44.20 meters.

The Hawks will be back in action next Saturday, April 18, when they travel to Canton, Missouri, for the Wildcat Open hosted by Culver-Stockton College.
