INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Quincy University women's wrestling team kicked off its 2025–26 campaign this past Saturday at the Luther Hill Open in Indianola, Iowa, held inside Blake Fieldhouse. While no team score was kept, the Hawks made a strong season debut, earning several top-five placers across both the Varsity and Freshman/Sophomore divisions. The event showcased Quincy's growing depth and competitive fire, with multiple wrestlers turning in milestone performances and several freshmen making impressive collegiate debuts.
In the Varsity Division,
Trinity Pendergrass led the way with a 2nd-place finish at 110 pounds, going 2–1 with a technical fall and a pin, continuing her run as one of the Hawks' most consistent performers.
Maddy Barton had a strong showing at 138 pounds, finishing 3rd overall with a 4–1 record that included both a technical fall and a pin, marking another standout early-season effort for the junior.
Sereena Baca battled her way to a 4th-place finish at 124 pounds, going 4–2 with two falls and a technical fall, while
Siobhan Rogers placed 7th at 145 pounds, finishing 3–2 with a fall and a technical fall.
Trinity White added another top-eight finish, going 3–2 with two pins to take 7th at 180 pounds, and
Bella Winingear earned a fall for her first career win en route to a 1-2 record at 207 pounds.
Veteran
Abby Rhodes also recorded a key milestone, earning a pin during her 1–2 outing at 138 pounds to reach 50 career individual wins, a testament to her consistency and success as one of Quincy's most experienced wrestlers.
Mackenzie Graves went 2–2 with both a fall and a technical fall at 103 pounds, showing grit in a competitive weight class.
In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, the Hawks' young talent wasted no time making an impact.
Alexandra Tchekounova was dominant at 110 pounds, taking 2nd place with a 3–1 record that featured two technical falls and a pin. At 160 pounds,
Lillian Baynes shined in her collegiate debut, placing 2nd after going 3–1 with three pins, while
Dempsey Atkinson had an equally impressive collegiate debut, finishing 3rd at 145 pounds with a 4–1 record that included three pins and a tech fall.
Elanna Hickman, competing at 160 pounds, finished 7th with a 4–2 record that included two falls and two tech falls, while teammate
Lauren Phillips went 4–2 with three falls to finish 6th at 138 pounds in her debut performance.
Valeria Rodriguez also placed 6th at 145 pounds, posting a 4–2 record with a fall and a technical fall, and
Gianna Schreck earned her first career win at 160 pounds with a fall.
The Hawks showcased their depth across multiple weight classes, collecting numerous victories through pins and technical falls. With several wrestlers earning podium finishes and others gaining valuable early-season experience, Quincy's women's program displayed both the leadership of its veterans and the promise of its newcomers.
The Hawks will now turn their focus to dual action, as they return home on Tuesday, November 4th, for their first dual of the season against Missouri Baptist University. The meet is set for 6:00 PM inside Pepsi Arena.
