Davenport, Iowa - The Quincy University track and field teams competed at the Fighting Bee Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25).
Women's Results
Sofia Capasso handled the sprints for the Hawks this afternoon with an 8.94-second finish in the 60-meter dash and a 30.12-second finish in the 200-meter dash. Both times were a college-best for the freshman.
In distance events,
Ava Certa,
Sofia Coglianese, and
Carlie Davis each PR'd in the mile run. Certa crossed the finish line first with a 6:14 time, while Coglianese and Davis finished close together with 6:39.15 and 6:42.38 times respectively.
Briana Obermaier was the final Hawk to compete on the women's side with a 12:49 time in the 3,000-meter dash, good for 7th place.
Men's Results
The men of Quincy had a lot to celebrate after this weekend's meet.
Sam Koenig took care of the sprints for the Hawks with sixth place finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. The freshman ran a 7.21 in the 60-meter finals and finished the 200-meter dash in 23.71 seconds.
Vinny Olson was the leader in the Hawks' distance trio with a 5:00.72 mile time, his fastest this season.
The Hawks picked up major points in field events.
Landon Sprous and
Dominic Ricci placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Sprous ran an 8.80-second time with Ricci just behind him at 9.19. Ricci then placed second in the high jump with a 1.88-meter jump.
Four Hawks performed well in the long jump with
Jack Thompson,
Jerron Baker, and
Charlie Kallal going back-to-back-to-back in rankings. Thompson's leap of 6.63 meters led the Hawks.
Baker broke his own record in the triple jump on Saturday with a 14.3-meter leap, snapping his record by .3 meters. Baker led the group with a first place finish, and his teammate Kallal ranked just behind him in second place with a 12.47-meter leap.
Evan Carroll rounded things out for the Hawks with throwing events. Carroll threw a 11.45-meter toss in the shot put and sent the weight throw 12.42 meters, giving the team two points with a seventh place finish.
The Hawks compete again next weekend at the Principia Relays.
