QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy men's wrestling team dropped its home dual Wednesday night to Maryville University inside Pepsi Arena, as the Saints claimed seven of ten bouts to spoil Senior Night for the Hawks.
Prior to the first whistle, seniors
Callan Ivy and
James Smith were honored for their dedication and contributions to the program.
Maryville opened the night with a forfeit at 125 and carried early momentum with decisions at 133 and 141 to build a quick lead. Quincy answered at 149 when No. 9
Sabian Russell delivered a dominant 17-4 major decision, and
Jackson Jones added another tight 4-2 decision at 165 to keep the Hawks within striking distance.
Senior
Callan Ivy gave the home crowd one more highlight in Pepsi Arena, earning a strong 13-4 major decision at 184 pounds. However, Maryville secured bonus points at 174 with a technical fall and at 197 with a pin to put the dual out of reach before a medical forfeit at heavyweight sealed the final result.
The Hawks return to the mat this weekend, traveling to Indianapolis for the Greyhound Duals on Saturday.
