QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team erased a double-digit second-half deficit to defeat Lewis University 72-62 inside Pepsi Arena on Thursday night.
Tiernan Stynes and
Ethan Bolton combined for 39 points on 17-of-24 shooting to lead the Hawks' offensive surge.
Lewis opened the contest red-hot, hitting eight of its first nine shots, including three triples, to jump out to a 19-11 lead in the opening six minutes. Ryan Hall fueled the early push, scoring 10 quick points and finishing the half with 17.
The Flyers extended their advantage to 24-13 before both offenses went cold for nearly five minutes.
Herb Martin ended the drought for Quincy, and
Lorenzo McMillion provided a spark off the bench with five late points to trim the deficit. However, Hall continued to deliver, and Lewis carried a 38-29 lead into halftime after shooting 53.6 percent from the floor and knocking down six three-pointers.
Quincy struggled to cut into the margin early in the second half as Lewis maintained an 11-point cushion. That changed midway through the period when the Hawks ignited a decisive 13-0 run, highlighted by baskets from Stynes and Bolton, to seize a 51-49 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Stynes continued to power the offense as Quincy extended its advantage to multiple possessions. The Hawks closed the game on a 12-6 run over the final five minutes to secure the 72-62 victory. Quincy dominated the second half, shooting 57.7 percent from the field while holding Lewis to just 37.0 percent and 2-of-11 from beyond the arc.
As a team, the Hawks shot an even 50 percent from the floor, 40 percent from three-point range, and 80 percent from the free-throw line. Quincy also held advantages in rebounding (31-26) and free throws made while committing just nine turnovers.
Stynes recorded his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting. Bolton added 19 points on 8-of-11 from the field, and
Camren Kincaid finished with 15 points to round out Quincy's double-figure scorers. Hall led all scorers with 26 points for Lewis, while Cale Cosme contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.
The Hawks conclude the 2025-26 regular season on Saturday when they travel to Indianapolis to face the Greyhounds. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM following the women's game.
