Hawks Stay Hot with Dominant Sweep of Kentucky State

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team secured its second straight sweep of Kentucky State University with a commanding 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 victory Friday afternoon inside Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks delivered one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season, hitting .400 as a team while receiving kills from eight different players. Quincy also controlled the match from the service line and at the net, finishing with 12 aces and nine total blocks.

Quincy set the tone immediately, racing out to a 7-1 lead fueled by three service aces and strong front-row blocking. The Hawks continued to separate themselves with balanced offense, as kills from five different players helped stretch the lead to 17-6

The Hawks closed the set by scoring eight of the final 10 points to secure a dominant 25-11 win. Quincy hit .333 with 10 kills and just two errors, while Kentucky State struggled to a -.158 hitting percentage.

The Hawks again jumped in front early, building an 8-3 advantage behind a pair of middle attacks from Travis Mendoza. Kentucky State briefly steadied play, but a three-point burst highlighted by two Alex Barkley points pushed the lead to 15-8.

Quincy maintained control the rest of the way, and a kill from Ryne Jacobsen sealed the 25-17 set victory. The Hawks recorded their best hitting percentage of the match in the frame, posting 14 kills with only two errors for a .444 clip.

The third set remained tight early, with Quincy holding a narrow 6-4 edge before a five-point surge extended the lead to 11-4, capitalizing on Thorobred miscues.

The set also featured several milestones as freshman Kaloyan Mirtchev recorded his first collegiate kill, freshman setter Jaquinn Miller made his debut, and Diego Cuadros appeared in his first match in a Quincy uniform. The Hawks cruised to a 25-17 win to complete the sweep, hitting .417 while limiting Kentucky State to five kills.

Quincy controlled every major statistical category, finishing with 37 kills, 35 digs, 12 aces, and nine blocks.

Malachi Allen and Jacobsen led the Hawks with nine kills each. Jacobsen added seven digs and four blocks, while Allen recorded four service aces. Barkley contributed five kills and two aces, and Mendoza added four kills. Dylan Feely paced the offense with 16 assists, while Pawel Tuz and Jaquinn Miller each recorded six assists.

The Hawks travel to Florida on February 26 to face Barry University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT at the Health & Sports Center.
