Late Runs Lift Barry Past Quincy in Straight Sets

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Quincy University dropped a straight-set decision to Barry University on Thursday evening at the Health & Sports Center, falling 25-18, 25-23, 25-20. The Hawks struggled to find offensive rhythm, hitting .085 with 19 errors, while Barry capitalized late in each set to complete the sweep.

The opening frame featured tight play early, with Quincy holding a narrow 9-7 advantage. Barry seized momentum with a four-point run fueled by Quincy errors, then broke a 13-13 tie with five straight points to take control. The Hawks closed within 21-18, but three late attack errors helped the Buccaneers finish the set. Quincy totaled seven kills with eight errors, while Barry posted 11 kills and hit .280 in the set.

Neither team led by more than two points through the first half before Barry moved ahead 15-12. Quincy responded, scoring six of the next eight points to claim an 18-17 edge and later held a 23-20 lead. Barry answered with a decisive five-point surge, aided by three Quincy errors, a service ace, and a block, to steal the set 25-23. The Hawks improved to 10 kills in the set, but Barry countered with 15 kills and a .206 hitting percentage.

Barry carried its momentum into the third, jumping ahead 7-3. Quincy responded with its best run of the match, scoring six straight points behind a pair of Bauer Larson service aces to take the lead. The teams traded points late, with Quincy ahead 19-18 before Barry closed the match by scoring seven of the final eight points. Barry recorded 15 kills with just two errors in the set to secure the sweep.

BU finished with a 41-26 advantage in kills and hit .278 compared to Quincy's .085 mark. Both teams recorded 32 digs.

Barnabas Fenyvesi led the Hawks with seven kills and three block assists. Isaiah Travis added five kills on seven swings (.429), while Larson contributed three service aces and a team-high eight digs. Barry was paced by Jacob Strnisa's match-high 15 kills, while Zachary Jabr added nine and William Phinizy recorded eight.

Quincy will look to bounce back Thursday in a rematch with the Buccaneers. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
