INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced its men's lacrosse preseason coaches poll on Thursday, with Quincy selected to finish fifth out of six teams after totaling nine points.
Maryville was picked to win the league, earning 25 points and all five eligible first-place votes. Lewis and Rockhurst tied for second with 19 points apiece, with Lewis collecting the remaining first-place vote. Indianapolis placed fourth with 13 points, while William Jewell rounded out the poll with five points.
The Hawks enter their seventh official season as a varsity lacrosse program and second year under head coach
Jake Acevedo. Quincy is coming off a 4–7 campaign in 2025, including a 1–4 mark in GLVC play. The season was highlighted by the program's first-ever conference victory, an 8–7 win over William Jewell on Senior Day.
Quincy looks to continue its upward trajectory in 2026 while returning the bulk of last year's roster. The Hawks bring back five of their top six point scorers from a season ago in
Haakon Steen,
Mason Luoma,
Caleb Hensley,
Eli Cowan, and
Jameson Essen.
In goal, QU returns
Austin Vetter, who emerged as a key piece last season. Vetter led the nation with 18.73 saves per game and ranked seventh in Division II with a .595 save percentage. Defensively, the Hawks also return
Colin Usher,
Jonah Pappas, and
Ian Kersten, all of whom started all 11 games in 2025.
The Hawks will open the 2026 season on the road against Rockhurst on Thursday, February 12, in a non-conference matchup, before visiting Northwood on February 21. Quincy's home opener is set for February 23 against Alabama Huntsville at QU Stadium.
