MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Hawks track and field team competed at the Coach Richard Alsup Open on Saturday, a 23-team meet with no team scoring, and turned in a strong day highlighted by multiple event wins, a school record, and 22 new personal bests.
Jack Thompson led the way with a dominant performance in the horizontal jumps, winning both the triple jump and long jump for the second straight meet. Thompson captured the triple jump title with a meet-record mark of 14.64 meters, which also met the Division II provisional standard, before adding a long jump victory at 7.02 meters.
Katie Park continued her standout season by setting a new school record in the 800 meters, placing fourth overall with a time of 2:20.10.
The Hawks also picked up several additional top-eight finishes across the meet.
Jerron Baker placed second in the triple jump (14.07 m) and eighth in the long jump (6.39 m).
Sean Sossou finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.41, while
Dominick Ricci tied for eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.83 meters. The 4x400 relay team of Ricci,
Kayden Johnston,
Aneas Smith, and Sossou rounded out the notable results with a sixth-place finish.
The Hawks will return to action next Saturday, January 24, traveling to Jacksonville, Illinois, for the Snowbird Open hosted by Illinois College inside the King Fieldhouse.
