QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University swimming teams opened their 2025–26 seasons in dominant fashion on Saturday, September 27, as both the men's and women's squads defeated Truman State at the QU Pool. The Hawk men raced away to a 143–62 victory, while the women secured a hard-fought 110.5–94.5 win to complete the program sweep in the season opener.
Quincy set the tone immediately in the relays. The men's A team of
Brendan Worster,
Haniel Kudwoli,
Martiniano Montero, and
Santiago Leiva touched first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.88. The Lady Hawks followed suit as
Lise Puissant,
Faith Cummings,
Olga Pucarevic, and
Bella Sparrow captured the women's 200 medley relay in 1:51.10, putting Quincy out front early on both sides.
The women's team kept the momentum going behind
Laiken Vorthmann, who won the 1000 free in 11:21.84, with
Cassie Rankin adding points in third at 11:42.81. Puissant followed with a victory in the 200 free (2:01.00), before Pucarevic sprinted to the wall first in the 100 fly (59.57). Sparrow closed out the highlights with a win in the 100 free, finishing in 56.06 to seal the team's advantage.
On the men's side, Quincy dominated across multiple events.
Denislav Koykov led the 200 free with a winning time of 1:40.75, while Leiva showed his speed in the 50 free, claiming first in 20.91.
Wyatt Walsh stood out with two victories, first in the 200 IM (1:57.34) and later in the 500 free (4:48.43).
Marcelo Rojas earned a win in the 100 fly (53.39), and
Victor Abram headlined a Hawks sweep in the 100 free at 49.09, followed closely by Montero (49.29) and
Jordan Settumba (49.30).
By the end of the meet, Quincy had not only secured team victories but also showcased depth, speed, and momentum to launch the new season.
The Lady Hawks return to action on Friday, October 3, visiting Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., with competition beginning at 3:00 PM at Horton Pool. The Hawk men will continue their season on Friday, October 17, traveling to Davenport, Iowa, to face St. Ambrose University at Central Natatorium, with the meet scheduled for 6:00 PM.
