Indianapolis, Ind. - The Quincy University track and field program rounded out its indoor season with the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship this weekend (Mar. 1-2). Quincy had its best showing in the past few years, led by a core underclassmen crew.
Landon Sprous led the Hawks with a finals-qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday, finishing the even in 8.60 seconds. Sprous was consistent from Saturday to Sunday and, again, ran an 8.60 in the event, placing 5th overall. He is the first Hawk to make it to the finals heat in the 60-meter hurdles since 2022.
Jack Thompson also had a great showing in the long jump and finished 9th in the conference with a 6.65-meter leap.
Jerron Baker competed with Thompson, hitting a 6.17 mark.
Evan Carroll and
Dominick Ricci rounded out the field events for the Hawks. Carroll's farthest throw in the shot put was 12.41 meters, just off from his season best. Ricci competed in the high jump on Sunday, making his way to 1.87 meters, nearly a season-best for the freshman as well.
Katie Park was the lone Hawk on the women's track team to qualify for conference. Park competed in the 800-meter run, finishing the event in 2:25.42.
Quincy rounded out the conference championship weekend with the 4x400-meter relay. The men's quad of
Sam Koenig, Thompson, Sprous, and Ricci completed the relay in 3:34.40, their best go at it this season.
The Hawks have a short pause on competitions as they prepare for their outdoor season. Quincy will take its first trip out to Rolla, Missouri, for the Miner Invitational later this March.
