Jacksonville, Ill. - The Quincy University track and field program competed at the Jim Green Invite on Saturday (Feb. 8). The Hawks' field events thrived at the invite, with
Jerron Baker and
Jack Thompson placing in the top tier of their jump events.
Men's Results
The Hawks freshmen continued to make names for themselves this weekend with Thompson's second place worthy 6.78-meter long jump and
Jerron Baker's third place triple jump at 13.69 meters.
Dominick Ricci hit 1.75 meters in the high jump, close to his recently set program record.
Evan Carroll handled the throws for the Hawks with a 12.58-meter toss in the shot put and a 10.05 weight throw.
On the track, the Hawks placed fourth in the distance medley relay, courtesy of
Vinny Olson,
Owen Weinfurtner, Thomas Hess, and
Jude Mintle. The young group of runners ran a 12:01.40.
Landon Sprous and Ricci had top-ten times in the 60-meter hurdles in Jacksonville. Ricci ran a 9.39 time while Sprous qualified for the final heat with a 9.26-second time. Sprous finished second in the finals, with an 8.67 time.
Sam Koenig and
Conner Turner finished back-to-back in the 60-meter dash, Koenig in front by .01 seconds at 7.33. Koenig finished 17th in the 200-meter dash, running a 23.82-second time.
Jayden Ruiz also competed in the 200, finishing at 24.64.
Hess and Olson competed later in the 800-meter run with Hess finishing in 2:10.43 seconds and Olson shortly behind him at 2:13.85.
Women's Results
Briana Obermaier led the Hawks in the mile run with a 6:16.89 time.
Carlie Davis and
Sofia Coglianese were just behind her at 6:33.55 and 6:43.87, respectively.
The Hawks have two more events to hone their skills before the Great Lakes Valley Championship the first weekend in March.
Jerron Baker currently ranks 6th of all GLVC opponents in the triple jump with his record breaking leap of 14.30 meters.
Jack Thompson is not too far behind him in the rankings at 11th.
Landon Sprous sits at 8th in the conference with his time from Saturday afternoon's 60-meter hurdles.
