Jacksonville, Ill. - The Quincy University track and field program took a short trip down I-72 for a Friday of competition on February 21st. The Hawks honed their skills in the Hilltop Classic hosted by Illinois College.
Men's Results
Jack Thompson started things off for the Hawks with a first place finish in the long jump. Thompson made it to 6.92 after hitting 6.94 last week, still hairs away from the Hawks' record set in 2020.
Jack Thompson then competed in the triple jump, leaping a 13.55 on the first try for a fourth place finish.
Jarvis Thompson followed Jack with a 13.09, good for fifth place.
Landon Sprous ran a third-place worthy 60-meter hurdles, finishing the run in 8.91 seconds.
Dominick Ricci was just behind him at 9.57.
Sam Koenig and
Jayden Ruiz ran the show in the 60-meter dash, Koenig finishing .04 seconds in front at 7.40 seconds.
Tommy Hess kicked off the distance events with an 800-meter run, finishing in 2:15.93. A trio of Hawks competed in the mile.
Vinny Olson finished first for the Hawks in a strong group of runners, coming across the line at 5:54.75. Sophomore
Jude Mintle ran a 4:58.68 on Friday while
Owen Weinfurtner rounded out the group with a 5:04.10, his fastest time this year.
Women's Results
Carlie Davis ran the mile for the Hawks with her fastest time in the event at 6:23.52.
Katie Park and
Ava Certa took care of the 800-meter dash on Friday. Park led the group with a 2:26.69 with Certa not too far behind at 2:37.05. Bri Obermaier rounded out the Hawks' distance crew with a 12:45.69 time in the 3,000-meter run.
The Hawks have just seven days to fine-tune before heading to Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship on March 1st and 2nd.
