Elsah, Ill. - The Quincy University track and field program got a small taste of GLVC action at the Principia Relays on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31 and Feb. 1). The Hawks had multiple personal bests and freshman
Dominick Ricci put himself in the record books with his high jump.
Field events started the Hawks off on Friday morning.
Jack Thompson placed third in the long jump with a 6.78 leap, just hundredths of a meter behind Missouri S&T's top placer. Ricci qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.16-second mark. Ricci then placed fifth in the high jump with his Quincy program record-breaking jump of 1.85 meters.
The women rounded out day one with a fourth place distance medley time of 14:50.52.
Saturday started off with another high mark from Thompson, this time in the triple jump. Thompson placed second in the mix with a 13.98-meter triple jump, beating out UMSL's Bailey Riley.
Jerron Baker was just behind Riley with a 13.64-meter leap.
In the 60-meter hurdles final, Ricci finished seventh overall with a 10.26 time.
Katie Park competed in the mile run and finished in her best indoor time at 5:52.61.
Sofia Coglianese and
Carlie Davis went back-to-back finishes for the Hawks with a 6:36.33 and 6:40.61, respectively. On the men's side,
Vinny Olson had a Quincy-best 4:56.36 time.
Bri Obermaier ran the 3,000-meter run for the Hawks at 12:53.78.
Jude Mintle and
Owen Weinfurtner handled the 3,000-meter run on the men's side with 10:20.84 and 10:21.95 times.
The women rounded out the competition with a third-place 4x400 relay of 4:47.57.
The Hawks return to the track this coming weekend with the Jim Green Invite at Illinois College.
