QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's swimming teams competed in a GLVC dual against the University of Missouri–St. Louis on Saturday inside the Bank of Springfield Aquatic Center, with the Hawks splitting the meet. The men edged out the Tritons, 132–130, to improve to 4–0 on the season, while the women dropped a 180–81 decision.
Prior to the meet, the Hawks honored 10 seniors, including
Faith Cummings,
Bella Sparrow, and
Chantal Tiesinga on the women's side, and
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco,
Nolan May,
Martiniano Montero,
Grant Owen,
Marcelo Rojas,
Kyle Scritchfield, and
Wyatt Walsh for the men.
Quincy opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of
Brendan Worster,
Andrej Golubovic,
Marcelo Rojas, and
Santiago Leiva touched first in 1:36.66.
Wyatt Walsh followed with a dominant performance in the 1,000 freestyle, winning in 9:53.97, and later doubled up with another victory in the 500 freestyle (4:44.84).
The Hawks also swept the 200 freestyle podium, led by
Denislav Koykov's victory in 1:43.52. Sprint success continued in the back half of the meet, with
Brendan Worster claiming first in the 100 backstroke at 52.46 and Leiva winning the 50 freestyle in 20.94. Koykov added another win in the 100 freestyle (47.52), while Rojas and Koykov went 1-2 in the 200 IM with times of 1:55.51 and 1:55.59, respectively.
On the women's side, individual event victories were led by
Kaitlynn Malarney, who won the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 59.57. Additional strong performances included multiple podium finishes across the freestyle and breaststroke events, with seniors Cummings, Sparrow, and Tiesinga all contributing points throughout the meet.
The Hawks will break from competition for the rest of December. The men return to action on January 10 with a dual at Missouri S&T inside the S&T Pool in Rolla, Missouri. Both teams will then compete at the Grinnell Invitational on January 16.
