SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Quincy University men's and women's swimming programs wrapped up a competitive two-day showing at the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Missouri, taking fourth place on both sides in a meet that featured several of the region's top programs. The women finished fourth out of five teams with 483 points, while the men secured fourth out of six with 558 points. The weekend showcased depth across multiple event groups, highlighted by several podium finishes and strong relay performances.
On the women's side, one of the strongest early results came in the 200 freestyle relay, where the Hawks' A relay of
Megan Schill,
Lise Puissant,
Olga Pucarevic, and
Vanja Vrbanec clocked a time of 1:39.45 to finish fifth. Pucarevic later recorded one of the top individual women's performances of the meet, placing third overall in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.26. Puissant also turned in a notable effort in the 500 freestyle, taking ninth in 5:19.36, while teammate
Chantal Tiesinga placed 11th in the same event. Quincy continued to show relay depth with a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (Puissant,
Faith Cummings, Pucarevic, Schill) in 4:02.96.
The Quincy men picked up several standout finishes, including a win in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of
Denislav Koykov,
Santiago Leiva,
Kyle Scritchfield, and
Martiniano Montero touched first in 1:23.70. Koykov followed that with a strong weekend individually, placing second in the 500 freestyle (4:34.91) and second again in the 400 IM (3:59.77).
Wyatt Walsh added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:33.22) and another podium in the 400 IM (4:00.97), giving Quincy its strongest distance scoring efforts of the meet. In the sprints, Leiva led the way with an event win in the 50 freestyle in 20.60, while Montero placed inside the top-10 of the same event. In breaststroke,
Haniel Kudwoli finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a 56.25, and
Juri Bauer scored as well with a seventh-place finish.
Relay strength continued for the men, as Quincy claimed third place in the 400 medley relay behind a lineup of
Juri Bauer, Kudwoli,
Marcelo Rojas, and
Lucca Arantes, finishing in 3:22.94. Arantes, Montero, and Caballero also contributed valuable individual points across freestyle, stroke, and relay events throughout the weekend.
Quincy will now turn its attention to the final meet of November, as both teams travel to Michigan for the Don Kimble Invitational hosted by Davenport University. The three-day meet will begin Friday, November 21st, at the Kentwood Aquatic Center in Kentwood, Michigan.
