QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team returns to postseason action this weekend, hosting the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal at Legends Stadium and Jack Mackenzie Field for the first time since 2018. The No. 4-seeded Hawks (10-3-4, 9-2-3 GLVC) welcome the No. 5-seeded Drury Panthers (9-2-6, 8-1-5 GLVC) on Sunday, November 9, in a matchup featuring two defensively disciplined and postseason-proven programs.
Coaching Leadership
The Hawks are led by first-year head coach
Taylor Reis, who has quickly shifted the trajectory of the program. Though this is his first season as a collegiate head coach, Reis is no stranger to high-pressure matches, having been a standout member of Quincy's men's soccer teams from 2014–2016 that made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and won a GLVC regular season championship. Under his leadership, Quincy has achieved its first winning season since 2020-21 and its first double-digit win season since 2018, marking a significant step forward in program resurgence.
Drury is guided by Justin Olson, now in his 13th season as a collegiate head coach and sixth at Drury, where he has compiled an impressive 64-23-25 record. Olson led Drury to a 16-3-4 season in 2024, including a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament and an appearance in the Midwest Regional Championship, just the second in program history. Like Reis, Olson has navigated this stage before and will have his team prepared for a road postseason test.
Postseason Program History
This is Quincy's first GLVC Tournament appearance since 2020-21 and the 22nd in program history. The Hawks have won the GLVC Tournament twice, earning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, and last hosted a tournament match in 2018.
Drury enters its 12th GLVC Tournament all-time and fourth straight postseason appearance. The Panthers have won the GLVC Tournament twice, in 2007 and 2021.
Series History
Quincy leads the all-time series 10-7-2 dating back to 2007 and holds a 5-4-1 advantage on home turf. However, Drury is unbeaten in the last six meetings (4-0-2), with Quincy's most recent win in the series coming in 2019.
The programs met earlier this season on October 17 in Quincy, where Drury earned a 1-0 victory. The Panthers scored in the opening three minutes through senior forward Holland Hawkins, and from there, the match settled into a defensive battle. Both teams generated six total shots, with Quincy holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but neither side was able to break through again over the final 87 minutes.
The two GLVC Tournament meetings between the programs have been historically significant. In 2007, Drury defeated Quincy 2-1 in double overtime in the semifinals and went on to win their first GLVC title. In 2012, Quincy defeated Drury in penalty kicks in the quarterfinal round and went on to win its first of two straight GLVC championships.
